"For the money there are much better choices"
Pros: Color ramping/banding was at a minimal. When viewing an all black test graphic, the LCD appeared to be off and there was minimal light leakage.
Cons: Subtle bluish-purple tints throughout. Color temperature and saturation was a little cooler/lighter in the upper right region of the display. Many more displays have better quality and better price.
Summary: I recently ordered a LaCie 120 20? LCD display and was very disappointed. I am a graphics professional that needs a high quality panel with accurate and even color and contrast. The LaCie 120 did not provide this.
When I unpackaged the monitor and set it up, I noticed that the picture appeared to have an hourglass shape to it. Upon closer inspection, it was an illusion created by the sides of the plastic bezel being warped and slightly turned out. That was a little frustrating to begin with. Once I started to use it I noticed that the color temperature and saturation was a little cooler/lighter in the upper right region of the display. No matter how much I attempted to calibrate and adjust the monitor, it still remained. In the review by Cnet.com (http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/lacie-120/4505-3174_7-31836627.html) they noted ?subtle bluish-purple tints throughout.? I observed the exact same thing and no amount of calibration would correct this. On mine, it was a subtle pale blue on everything and it wasn?t a color temperature/calibration issue. In addition, the overall picture had a slight fuzzy quality reminiscent of LCD displays from 3-4 years ago. In regards to the LaFrame, I tried to have an open mind and decided to give it a try. I was hoping it would in fact provide a more ?optimal viewing experience; however, it hogged my desk space and was more of a distraction than anything.
On a positive note, color ramping/banding was at a minimal. Also, when viewing an all black test graphic, the LCD appeared to be off and there was minimal light leakage.
For the price, the picture quality just wasn?t there. I actually tried to give this monitor a chance for a week and it just didn?t cut it. The issue with the color temperature being different in the upper right region automatically excluded the monitor from photo/graphics editing use. I think you would have to pony up for a 300 series LaCie in order to get the quality that they have been known for in the past.
