"$6,500 and it still doesn't beat a good CRT"
Pros: Best LCD monitor available today
Cons: Still cannot meet or exceed a quality CRT display costing 13 times less
Summary: I bought this monitor several weeks ago and I will say that it is definitely a great monitor. However, looking back on it I can now say I cannot believe I spent this much money on it. I was always a believer in CRT over LCD (I do a lot of image and film editing work). I used a Diamondtron monitor for the past 6 years. I added a new computer to my workspace, and I decided to get this new über NEC monitor.
After I set it up and calibrated it, I found that I still preferred the Diamondtron picture to the NEC picture! Even after running the calibration on the Diamondtron, I still liked the Diamondtron picture better. I am sure that the NEC monitor is doing it's thing and covering more than the Adobe gamut, but it still just doesn't win over my preference.
I am basically now of the opinion that the goal of LCD manufacturers is to make their pictures as close to CRT displays (like the Diamondtron) as possible. And right now, I spent $6,500 to get something that comes CLOSER than pretty much any other LCD out there, but still just doesn't match or exceed it. In short, I flushed around $6,000 down the toilet... I could have gotten a new Diamondtron display instead for around $400 - $500 and spent the rest of the money on a new camera.
+10 for the LCD monitor, -9 for not being able to produce a picture that exceeds CRT monitors costing (literally) 12 to 13 times less.
