Pros Looks Nice
Color is Nice
Cons NOT RELIABLE - Good chances it will malfunction after the warranty is over.
Summary I purchased a SAMSUNG SYNC Master 2232 BW Plus on August 16, 2008.
Purchased the Screen for a bit over $ 300 (US$)
Exactly 1 year and 1 month later, it started "flashes".
Originally it was fast flashes for 2-5 seconds in total length and then everything was okay... but soon after (a few weeks) it was flashing for over 1 minute and at times it started blacking out. Blackouts for over 2-5 minutes in length.
I read on the subject only to find out that I AM NOT the only one having problems with Samsung and that it is an "Internal Circuit Problem"
I took it to a place to find out cost of repair or diagnosing the problem and was given an estimate of $ 150 to $ 200 (Yeah anything over $ 100 to fix this peace of crap was out of the question)
Of course it was NO LONGER under warranty coverage since SAMSUNG only has a 1 year warranty. So here I was 1 year 1 month later stuck with a useless piece or RUBISH.
What I intend to do with it?
I will take it for target practice next time I got to the shooting range.....
In summary, DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG. Yes, I know all the reviews I read also were good about Samsung, but I cannot be the ONLY exception, perhaps the ONLY one that is willing to waste time writing negatively about them.
If you do buy Samsung, I STRONGLY recommend you consider purching a warranty.
In fact, after my problems I just went out and purchased an LG today for 23" for $ 219 (Should have purchased LG from the beginning) ..... I hear that HP and Dell also have good reviews, but I went for LG based on price and the special the store had (For sure I did not buy a new SAMSUNG, nor ever will, I ALSO did not buy a new screen from the same store)
Hope this helps... God Bless
Pros Clear and Sharp
Cons cost $50 more than the 226BW The light bleed thru is evident at the top and bottom
Summary I came Fry's to purchase the 226BW, it looked flat and grey on the demo unit ( no mater how I fiddled with the controls and I did check to see if had a dfferent source) and Fry's only had 3 "returned units" left which was spooky. So I figured I would have to go elsewere or get the 2232BW which had a excellent picture, same specs and a shiney black case which has some tilt adjustment on it. ($50 higher) I dont see a VESA mount on the back. It works fine, I play BF2142 and I havent noticed ghosting. (DVI-D mode) comes with both DVI-D and VGA cables. The styrofoam inserts in the box are shockingly thin, the shipping box is noticeably thinner, saving shipping and wherehouse space. The setup software is nice. I dont have to borrow a calibration meter now. I have yet to play a movie on it.
"Excellent Monitor"on by jhkk
Pros Excellent resolution and excellent colors. Easy setup.
No dead pixels
Cons Stand is a little wobbly, but not a problem on my desktop
Summary I bought this monitor in November, 2008, almost 4 years now, and it has never given me any problems. I bought it from Newegg for $209 on sale. Computer use probably averages 4 or 5 hours/day and it has worked flawlessly. I would buy again in a heartbeat!
Pros When it works, very bright, sharp picture. (Formerly) good brand name.
Cons Widely known for bad internal circuitry that causes a great deal of flicker, scanning timing problems, and failure to power on.
Summary There are many other highly reliable monitors. This one failed on me after two years and had to be replaced. Samsung was unwilling to help me.
Pros Price was good, has 2 inputs at the back, image is clear and sharp. Using for Graphic Design work.
Cons No rear mounts for attaching to a wall/stand. Also, noticeable difference in tone between top/bottom of the screen. Sometimes have to scroll up/down to check colour when doing larger designs.
Summary This monitor has been used a minimum of 8h a day every day, in many cases its on all day. I have it hooked into a MAC and a PC and toggle between the two and on both systems the colour/image are clean and sharp. Only downside is again, the colour shifts between the top and bottom, almost as though it emits more light at the bottom. I also realized a few weeks after purchase, that there are no mounts on the rear for attaching to anything so, only works with the basic stand that comes with the unit.
