"Super Bright Example of Great Design"
onSummary After much research, I finally decided on the 171P. The specs were competitive and the design put it on top. Also, I found a great price blunder that put the cost at $460 (thanks Cnet!). Most important feature I wanted was dual inputs. I have it running on analog as a second monitor for my mac, and through digital for my pc. The display is insanely bright, clear and sharp. It makes my 22" Apple Cinema display show it's age. My disappoints are that you can't get a frequency greater than 75mHz in analogue mode. I would prefer an 85, but I guess it's not possible with LCDs. Also, in digital mode, my PC runs it automatically at 70mHz; however, when I attempted it on my mac, it would only enable 60mHz. Also, I wish someone would create a dual input DVI display, rather that 1 DVI, 1 VGA. Another gripe is the difficulty of adjusting the display. I'm sure over time it'll loosen up, but tilting and rasing the display takes a bit of effort. But I'm incredibly happy that there were zero dead pixels and it works flawlessly (Still burning in the display). It's amazingly bright and the blacks and really black. A great buy.

"Disasterous support at Samsung"
onSummary Brand new monitor developed row of dead pixels after 3 weeks. Only options: refurbished monitor or 3-4 week wait for repair. Completely unaccomodating. Took me weeks to get return label from Samsung. If your monitor is defective, you are screwed.

"Why bother with other displays???"
onSummary I shopped around for more than a week...visited Compusa, Microcenter, Amazon...I was going to buy Samsung 152B because I could get it for $329 from compusa after $50 rebate (a good buy). But then I found ecost.com selling 171P for around $650...just got it today and man, this is awesome. I love 171P...don't bother with other displays...this is the one.

"Great Choice It's worth $200 extra"
onSummary I got it for christmas after reading and comparing all brands. I could of got 17" for $200 less but it was good decision to go with this model. Perfect pictures, very bright, automatic adustment, and very expensive looking. three year warranty.

"Love at first screen!"
onSummary Great picture, contrast and colors from the first startup without any adjustment needed( on Ti 4200/DVI).I don't regret the time I spend to compare and to search for the best !

"Purrrrfect"
onSummary I've had my Syncmaster for about six months now (bought it for $750) and I have to say that I have been nothing but impressed with it. I haven't met anybody yet who hasn't drooled on it once they see it. It has great image quality, sharp pictures, no rounding around the edges, and it has some great little options (the menu buttons on the front). The only problem that I've had is that the cord from the monitor that plugs into my PC went corrupt or something, so I had to use another cord and it's adapter plug. I've had it for six months though and I've been nothing but impressed. Plus, the Pivot Pro Software that comes with it is hella cool.

"Comment about the negative postings"
onSummary It seems to me that there is one person on here that consistently devalues all Samsung branded products. Its quite clear that this person is biased to an extreme degree. Going back to school to learn good English would'nt hurt either.

"A quality but slightly pricey LCD"
onSummary I suppose when anyone wants to buy anything, price usually comes first. The 171P is a little expensive compared to other monitors in the same market. However, it is a very functional, well designed monitor. As far as I'm concerned, there are no defects. I've read some of the negative comments, some I believe are legitimate but there are many comments that seem to come from the same person. And if your going to say that this product is bad, give a bit more than just "the worst monitor ever" etc..

"Sleek, light, and a sight to behold. What more do you what?"
onSummary No doubt that Samsung has some of the most nicest LCD's on the market today. I'm a true convert from NEC. The moment I saw this 171P on the shelves in CompUSA, my jaws just dropped. The picture quality is on par with even the Apple Studio Displays that I was so fond of but resisted from purchasing since its a Mac. The price maybe high for some, but what your getting, in my opinion, is worth every penny of it. Its a great LCD. Enough said.

"Beautiful design & best pic out there"
onSummary I love this monitor, eventhough you pay a somewhat higher price, you will be COMPLETELY satisfied with this monitor from the moment you take it out of the box.
-
"Rate the reviewers"
onSummary I haven't bought it yet, but from reading the reviews it looks like a good monitor. The negative reviews looks like they were written by the same two juveniles who might potentially have had a video card problem on a cheap system.

"Stellar 17" LCD monitor but for a price"
onSummary I absolutely LOVE, I mean LOVE, this monitor. I've never had this feeling EVER when I was using a CRT monitor before. The colors are fantastic. It just blows away the CRT's. There is NO flickering, no radiation and no tired eyes. I work in a crowded desk and space comes at a premium for me. After I bought this Samsung, I can actually fit TWO LCD's for the space it took with my CRT monitor. The quality is excellent and I have not noticed ANY dead pixels out of the box. The price of this unit is a little bit more than LCD's of its range but there is always a reason why. With stellar quality pictures and not to mention the design by the famous Porsche group, your getting all your moneys worth. I know I sure am. Highly recommended.

But, I have the other monitor hooked up to an Ati 9000 with a DVI interface.Other monitor image quality good. 171P Lcd image quality Bad. The whole screen is miss focused and is bad on the eyes. "Great Monitor for Business Applications"
onSummary I have the 171P hooked up to an OEM Matrox Millennium G550 with a single DVI-D interface. The image quality from mine is great. The whole screen is perfectly focused and is easy on the eyes. My white is white...so I guess all those complaining about it must have unit or the color temperature is not set correctly. My unit doesn't have any problems so I never had a chance to test out Samsung's support. I also gave them a 3 for value as it's kind of expensive-->I paid about $850 a few months back.
