"do not believe CNET review, this is AWESOME" on by bronxbombers3
Pros: great subtly of shading and shadow detail, great for DVD and photo, superior image quality and inputs to 24" Dell
Cons: external 16:9 material streches to 16:10, price (but actually it just dropped so not bad now), slight touch of backlight bleed and lag
Summary: Don't pay any attention to official review here. gradients are way better than for 2407, despite claims here, no banding or tinting with pink and green. also has better DVD playback despite crazy claims in review on this site. look at some character dressed in black, on 244t you can see detail, on 2407 it looks dull, flat, mushed together. read reviews on other sites like trusted reviews.
amazing gamma profile without compression at bright end or dark end (2407 has bad dark compression) whether you chose to set brightness max or way down (2407 loses even more shadow detail when brightness dialed down).
might have slightly less inputs that Dell, but hey at least it does 1920x1080i->1920x1080p component delacing and not 1920x1080i->1920x540p delacing!
it does frustratingly strech 16:9->16:10 when using external inputs, has slight touch backlight bleed and trace of lag (dell also does the stretch thing unless you use mulitmedia mode, but that bands so badly it loses like 3/4 of all shades).
remembers OSD setting changes.
awesome, great for games, movies, photo, design, etc. only the nost diehard FPS player could find fault (or someone who relies heavily on external 16:9 sources). -
"My search has been justified" on by Bigbobv
Pros: This monitor ROCKS. All the features I need, Phenominal clarity, colors and a brightness that puts the competition to shame.
Cons: A little expensive but better than the rest in this price range.
Summary: I searched quite a while for this one. I had other choices in which I almost purchased the Dell 24" only after seeing and almost buyibg the Viewsonic 2025WM unit. I wanted a wide-screen but none really hit me at the time and the reviews were pretty mixed on both those units. But when I saw the Samsung 244T in Circuit City on display, I was absolutely blown away. And, it was playing a DVD movie with the clarity and brightness that other reviewers only mentioned with not a great deal of enthusiasm.
This monitor is the best I've ever seen in a large screen display. No dead pixels, just brilliant, clear, colored pictures and super clear text images. BTW, I also play games... Yes, I'm in my mid 50's and I play games. I play the single player war games or just about any FP Shooters. I love all kinds and wanted a monitor that would engulf my senses while I played. Well...I found exactly what I had been looking for and for quite some time. The Samsung 244T just puts me in the middle of the action and keeps me there for all the excitement and goose bumps that only games like FEAR, Call of Duty, Allied Assault, Far Cry, Doom and of coarse, Half Life 2 and Half Life 2:Episode One can only do. When I adjusted the resolution to 1920X1280 while in the games, as well as adjusting my desktop display area to the same resolution, the screen and images were astonishing. It was like I was playing the games for the first time with a new excitement. The images and graphics were simply AWESOME. And the colors...it was like I bought a new graphics card. You'll just have to see it to believe it.
So, if you have been looking around for a monitor like I have...and you knew this was coming...LOOK NO FURTHER. I would have paid a grand for this monitor but I was lucky to find it for $803.00 at Apparelandtech.com. In my oppinion, the Samsung 244T is the best deal and monitor on the market.
Save your nickels and go and get one for yourself. -
"Extraordinarily good Monitor but trickysoftware install" on by John Butler
Pros: Excellent display and appearance neat small foot print
Cons: Rather Costly
Summary: Easy to connect to the PC, the 244T immediately diplayed perfectly in digital mode with my Nvidia 6800 card at the resolution of the previous iiyama monitor (1600x1200) and I set it to its native 1900x1200 (at 60hz) using Windows XP Pro SP2 drivers.
The Samsung software came on a bad CD which hung my system as soon as I attempted to install it, forcing a reboot.I had a lot of hassle with this.
Eventually I got the latest drivers and the Magic Tune colour tuning software from SEC web site. With the right software this is an extraordinarily good monitor. There are four preset mdisplay settings, whci cna be tuned, avalable at the click of a mouse.
This is a first rate piece of hardware provided you get the softwware correctly installed. It is the best monitor I have had in twenty years experience! It has changed my life being able to see two A$ pages full size side by side with my rather old eyes. -
"Best in price for color and quality" on by docswab
Pros: Fantastic color, even illumination, bright, and sharp
Cons: DVD playback a bit blocky in darkest darks
Summary: Rundown, connected to Mac with Radeon 9800 on a DVI cable:
- Color quality after calibration with SuperCal is outstanding when using the warmest setting on the color temperature control, and tweaking the yellow slightly on the 6 color control. Otherwise, bypass the Magic Tune stuff). Visually comparing an IT-8 target on screen with the real one shows that the color is betterr than the Apple Studio Display CRT that the flat panel replaces.
- No dead or stuck pixels.
- Extremely even backlight illumination (better than the screen of my 15" PowerBook G4).
- Very sharp text and images.
- Color gradations on still pictures seem even and smooth.
- Very bright whites and nice, dark blacks.
- Full screen DVD playback seems smooth with no obvious ghosting. Very dark scenes (as in Harry Potter Goblet of Fire) do show a bit of blocking in the darkest parts when the gamma is set to 2.2.
- S-Video and component video inputs for VCR or game console (with adaptor). -
"Beats the Dell 2405" on by tech92117
Pros: Best monitor I've ever owned
Cons: Base is huge
Summary: I own both the Dell 2405 and Samsung 244T-Black. The 244-T when hooked up to the same PC blows away the 2405. I'm seeing detail and richness that is missing on the 2405. If you're waivering, I can tell you without reservation I feel it was money well spent.
My one and only qualm, which is minor, is that the base for the monitor is pretty big.
