"Best LCD I've seen..." on by bruiserboy
Pros: Graphic, text, video quality is phenomenal.
Cons: I have no regrets.
Summary: I don't think that the lack of adjustability in the height, side-to-side, or pivot of this monitor is a big deal because it is just as adjustable as a CRT anyway, so why take away points for that. No, it is a far cry better than the viewsonic 16ms lcd I bought, and it has such vivid color that I am seeing my computer come to life. I've watched a few movies on it so far which look as good as they do on my 32" vega and Half Life 2 looks superb (no ghosting). If you want it, amazon has it cheap and sony's offering a 100 dollar mail in rebate. With the 3-year warranty and the reliability of the sony name, it is well worth the extra green that I spent on it over the price of the viewsonic. Don't hesitate, get this one.
p.s. the glare doesn't bother me at all and my computer is right next to the bedroom window. -
"One of the best 19" LCD monitors" on by javoDK
Pros: The bright display, the high contrast, switch between digital and analoge connections
Cons: Max screen resolution, max refresh rate, not so cool wall mounted look
Summary: I am just happy about my two Sony SDM-HS95P monitors. One is set up to my laptop and the other is connected to my server and gaming machine. The switch on the monitor makes it easy to get the picture from my monitor or gaming pc. And the picture is just so bright and nice. Even gradient colors looks great. It can not beat a CTR monitor but it is close.
Worth the price tag! -
"Blows away the competition!" on by ekkie
Pros: Brightest, clearest, most vibrant monitor available (this actually applies to all of Sony's new XBrite monitors); ultra-fast response time; no dead pixels
Cons: No height adjustment available, back panel doesn't secure the cables well, monitor controls are not the most intuitive, expensive
Summary: I'm actually not a huge Sony fan, so it's a surprise to myself that I spent the extra cash for a Sony monitor. I had been holding out a LONG time on purchasing my first LCD monitor for a few reasons. 1) I didn't want to deal with the dead pixel issue that invariably crops up on most LCDs. 2) My previous 19" CRT monitor was working just fine and didn't warrant a replacement. 3) Previously, with exception of a few models, most monitors have slow response times resulting in screen drag with movies, videos, games, etc.
My main motivation for purchasing a new LCD was to take advantage of the split monitor functionality with WinXP (invaluable if you're the type to have several windows open at once). Since my current monitor was an analog CRT monitor, I decided now would be the time to add an LCD. I was pre-biased towards Samsung's reputation for building great LCDs but was also open to Panasonic, NEC and Viewsonic. In previewing those models, I could see some slight differences between them in both screen quality and appearance, but the differences were only slight in my opinion. That all changed the very moment I saw this Sony model. The difference is astounding! My comments really apply to Sony's entire new line of XBrite monitors including a couple of combo LCD/HDTV-compatible monitors. These monitors are even brighter than most CRTs. To put a finer point on this, next to my older 19" Mitsubishi DiamondPro CRT, this Sony LCD (at the lowest lamp-level and brightness level) is still brighter than my Mitsubishi CRT at it's highest brightness level. In fact, it makes my old monitor look VERY old. This is actually a slight source of frustration because I use both side-by-side and the overall screen quality of my old CRT just looks horribly outdated next to this Sony. This monitor will likely have that effect next to ANY other monitor you currently own. As for the response time, you'll find that most monitors of this size will not be able to meet the fast 12msec response time that Sony advertises (especially not at 19"). Finally, of all these new Sony models that I saw on display and (more importantly) the one I have in front of me, I have yet to see a single dead pixel. Very impressive! Highly highly recommended!
As for the cons I listed above, they're all quite easy to overlook in my opinion. The height adjustment is not too terribly important in my case (I'd only raise it an extra couple inches if given the chance). The issue with the back-panel not staying on can be compensated for by positioning your cables differently (besides, it's in the back, where I can't see it anyway). The controls don't bother me (I really only have to deal with the controls once when first setting it up and then I'm done with it). For the price, I could have considered a larger Samsung screen, but as much respect as I have for Samsung, the screen quality was the final deciding factor. There was just no comparison. -
"Best LCD Picture and Perfomance Ever!!!" on by rwalker222
Pros: XBRITE, DIGITAL DV-I, Clear, Clean and Vibrant.. This is an amazing LCD Display! Forget Viewsonic and anything else. Unless you want to waste your time.
Cons: Rear cover does not stay on very well unless you route the cords through the rear stand opening. Menu buttons could be easier to use.
Summary: I am extremely hard to please. Especially on monitors. I have tried several and I mean several.. This is by far the best LCD I have seen. The performance, clarity, brightness are amazing! The only thing I suggest is to route the cables through the rear metal stand. I did not do that the 1st time I set it up and the pressure of the cords on the cover popped the bottom part of the cover off. The cover is only there for looks anyway. The menu buttons could be a little easier to use, lining up the buttons with the text and navigation could be easier. Other that that. If you want the best 19 LCD. This is it…

"Great Monitor" on by llulua
Pros: We get just as much use our of this 19" than any widescreen up to below 24". Never have a reflection problem even though the rooms window is 6 feet to the front upper left. Very bright and clear. Great picture!
Cons: for our use, none.
Summary: Everyone who sees this monitor displaying videos or images comments on how great it looks. We agree!
