"Best LCD for around $450"
Summary: This is the best quality LCD on the market to date. I did my homework before I brought this LCD; Viewsonic got the best contrast ratio and pixel size in the competitive price range of 17? and 18?. Before my VG700, I was very impressed with the brightness and beauty of my friend?s VG800 18?. It was a hard decision to pick between the VG800 and this VG700, with VG800 got more subtle features. But at the end, I picked the VG700 for savings of around $170. I can?t find enough reasons to pay $170 for that ONE INCH of viewing space. Once I got the monitor, I used it mostly for gaming, web surfing and photo editing. I was very impress. It was brighter than 95% of the all LCDs I saw on the shelf of big chain stores. Aside from the very BIG bright display, it is very accurate in color and left no ghost trail during game play. This monitor satisfied all my display needs as a demanding yet non-professional user. I have no problem with the back panel, it stayed on fine. One disappointment is the weak speakers. It hurts me to see such a big beautiful view and hear such weak speakers. They should leave these weak/bad sounding speakers out and design thinner lower border. In addition, I observed this LCD works best when I set the resolution to the highest, 1280 x 1024 @ 75hz. I have no problem with this because I just set the Windows fonts bigger. It is unfair for CNET editor to compare this LCD with others that cost double. I think most people can use that $450 worth of savings. If one compares this LCD with others that are the same size and the same price range then this LCD will stand out.
