Pros Close-up photos are easy to take and have great clarity.
Cons The motor on the lens for the auto focus broke after 13 months. I paid 600.00 for this lens and I feel that the poor quality is something Canon needs to address. Also, the rubber focus ring is lose and slides around. Canon customer service was abrupt an
Pros Incredible depth of field, super sharp, nice in low light
Cons Usually need a tripod for really close macro shots
Summary I use this lens for a lot of floral photography, and I almost always use a tripod and manual focus to get the sharpest shots at the closest focusing range. The f2.8 provides a very nice shallow DOF.
As a bonus, it also is great for portraits with a nice blurry background, and you don't have to get right in the subject's face to get a close up shot.
I've had it 2 years with no problems at all.
