Pros Excellent stabilzation in low light situations, great focusing speed, unobtrusive VR system.
Cons None detected to date.
Summary Unfortunately, two previous reviewers are wronf about the format, this is an FX lens that works well on my DX camera. I am taking shots that I could never have accomplished before -- 300mm at 1/30 second across a poorly lighted indoor pool is just the beginning. I have experienced NO LENS CREEP with a smooth yet firm zoom. I especially like that I can true up my focus without changing to manual mode. This is the best zoom lense for the money -- hands down.
Pros 300mm=450mm f5.6., sharp, fast AFs. VR gets you about one stop more
Cons vr motor a bit noisy
Summary Bottom line for less then $600 why tote around a big heavy pro lens unless you are shooting sports at night.? Quality images on low budget. Cheap long zoom on digital (DX) format cameras
Pros wide usable range in focal length and speed
Cons zoom tension is so loose, the barrel jumps out as the camera faces down
Summary With the DX-format factor, it may be just a little too much lens, but the tension on the zoom is so loose that the barrel quickly and fully extends as the camera hangs over my shoulder. It makes me hesitate to keep it on the camera as my first utility lens.
