"As good as people are saying"

Pros

64-bit architecture, very powerful search, efficient and easy to use automation features, much more

Cons

User interface is inconsistent, don't see much use for Dashboard

As far as raw power and professional features go, this is the new gold standard of computing. As a user in the legal profession, I've searched forever for the best way to organize the tens of thousands of Microsoft Word documents on my computer. Spotlight, Apple's new global search feature, has completely solved that problem. I've set up smart folders based on all sorts of criteria and the system automatically updates to find anything.

The same praise should be extended to Automator. Every day, I think of more and more repetitive tasks that can be turned over to the Mac. It's one of those features that you easily could forget you had. But if you think creatively about how it could help your work, you won't know how you lived without it.

The 64-bit architecture makes this an essential upgrade for G5 users.

I have two complaints:

1. Dashboard, though more useful than Sherlock, doesn't seem particularly compelling to me. Others may find it useful, but it doesn't fit into my workflow. That's not a big deal, of course, since there are plenty of other features that do catch my interest.

2. A more significant concern, from my perspective, is that the user interface continues to become less consistent. Safari/iTunes/Finder look one way; Mail looks another; most of the rest of the applications look yet another way. Why Apple's interface designers can't pick up on the consistency of Apple's hardware is beyond me. Still, it's much better than Windows even in this respect (and vastly better in terms the power of its features), so there's really no competition at present.

With those qualifiers, I think this is an outstanding system that is helping me to work more efficiently. Highly recommended.

"Mac's there only choice for any educated user."

5 stars  | on by Beanshell

Pros

Intuitive interface, ease of use, Powerful search engine built in. And let's not forget the lack of worrying about the safety of your information, to the lack of pop-ups, viruses and malware! With Apple OS's they are non-issues!

Cons

Most things in life have cons. This OS by Apple is imo the example of when you listen to users and actually implement them unlike Windows.

From turning your Mac OS 10.7 powered Mac on to turning it off you are reminded of why Apple is enjoying an historic rise in user base. From it's beautiful interface to it's ease of use the Mac running any of the incarnations since Apple started using and updating OS 10 the user is faced with how computing should be done in the 21rst century.

There is nothing you don't need, and everything you DO need here. Your'e not faced with a dressed up version of an old OS like Windows does. I mean Apple offers one version of it's OS and you can feel safe that it will surpass anything you will need and stay current and relevant for the life of it's version. Unlike Windows who continues to put out version after version that is not user friendly and is basically dressing up the antiquated Windows 95. Everything Windows has done since then can be traced and looks much like it did over a decade ago.

Not true with Apple's OS 10. It is a huge leap forward for operating systems and shows it's power with everything it shows you it can do with ease.

There is something to be said for a company who will let ANY old piece of garbage company let it's OS be run from. Not so with Mac's. If it doesn't make the computer component itself, it chooses very carefully a company that will enhance and compliment it's operating system. Macs are simply not only beautiful to look at but they are at it's heart powered by the most intuitive and powerful operating system on the face of the earth.

If all you know is a Windows experience you truly are missing the boat on what computers should be able to do in this century. You are settling for a cheap incomplete version of what Windows is trying to no avail to copy from Apple. The user base for Mac's OS is groaning faster than any other and there is a reason. If you don't believe this posters opinion all you have to do is pop into you local Apple store and get a first hand feeling for how Mac's run and how advanced the Mac OS is to anything you might be using.

"Out Standing Operating System"

Pros

Extremely bullet proof architecture, Extremely easy to use interface, great speed. Excellent features for it's time.

Cons

The GUI seems a little old but I do like the Tiger Aqua better than the Leopard Aqua but I would rate them about the same.
