"best of Unix and Windows combined into one operating system"
Pros: safe, reliable, stable, great bundled software (iLife), Expose, SpotLight
Cons: finder not multi-threaded, too many "beach-balls of death"
Summary: For scientific visualization and software development, OS X is is hard to beat. It's BSD Unix foundation allows easy importing of open source software. Furthermore, OS X can run native MS Office. Hence it has allowed me to replace two computers (Windows PC + Unix workstation) with one (Apple PowerBook). I often have many applications running at one, so I find Expose a real enhancement to productivity.
