"I really don't get CNET's rating system" on by cardfan1212

Pros: 10.5 looks to be the best OS out there

Cons: too few to worry about

Summary: I'm a windows user. Always have been. But i'll definitely be looking at Macs in the future.

What i don't understand is how this OS only receives an 8.0. Ubuntu doesn't compare with either Vista or this one. Vista has so many versions, its unreal and a crappy security policy when you go to install it.

What's not to like about OS X? You can boot up much quicker, don't have the drivers mess, has more features, and is easier to use. It's much more secure and is just a seamless OS without the bloat Vista has and doesn't suck the resources.

I agree with you, I also don't understand how one of the cons is that it doesn't work with older Mac systems, but in the Leopard tour video they said that it does. They really need to get their facts straight.

    Well I guess its a 8 if Vista is a 5.

the cnet staff is great with electronics including computers. They do not fall under the category of people apple's trying to target. A huge part of the OS is the whole "it just works" part of it. To the cnet editors, they already know how to do anything. To most average people, this deserves a 9 or a 10, but understandably it only gets an 8 through their eyes<br><br><br>I hope this helps

Why be surprised at CNET's tendency to be lukewarm (at best) towards the Mac platform? <br><br>Expecting CNET to really appreciate the superiority of the Mac platform is like asking Microsoft to acknowledge that Windows is nothing but an inferior imitation of the Mac OS. <br><br>Die-hard Windows users like those at CNET just don't get it, because to praise the Mac unabashedly would be an acknowledgment that they made the wrong choice, and that's hard for an ego to cope with.

"The bad: Some new features, such as geotagging, aren't obvious to find; users with older Macs can't run Leopard."<br><br>1) Who gives a damn? If you need it you will find it. 2) And just how many 7 year old windows pc users can run Vista Basic, hmm?<br><br>2.0 points docked.. and for what? Having extra nice features and making it as easy as possible to upgrade an older Mac?
