"Stay away from them." on by razcnet

Pros: Nothing that I can think of.

Cons: -The admin interface is clumsy, bad designed, and a compilation of popups.
-They overcharge you and try drive you into paying more than you have to.

Summary: Once a relatively decent -although expensive- registrar, I have been progressively withdrawing my domains from their side.

Now I only have one domain left, and I hope is not for long. The control panel seem more a collection of popup ads than anything else. Also, the Shopping Cart does have some tricks to deceive you and add more products than you actually want.

All in all, I wouldn't ever recommend register.com.

"I'm bald from pulling my hair out!" on by lgmonk

Pros: There isn't one single pro that I can think of.

    Cons: Too many to list.

Summary: We've only had our site for a couple of weeks but it has been a nightmare from the beginning. First of all we were assured we could use asp.net (.NET Framework 3.5) and MS Sql Server. I create a little test application and ftp it up and guess what - our account didn't support .net - we had to pay more and upgrade. We pay more and guess what - it's defaulting to .Net Framework 4.0 and the first customer service rep told me I had to upgrade. Really?? We finally get that straightened out but the I had the nerve to add 3 sub-folders (TestSite1,2, and 3) and ask that they be set up to run as applications. Their Admin screens don't have anyway for me to do this myself. It took days and multiple phone calls to finally get that straight. If you're looking into using register.com, DON'T. Run like the wind!

"Wow ! Boy, have they gone down the tubes." on by Crosswinds999

Pros: No support calls necessary for three years. It WAS ok last time I called, but that was the New York office. Now it is in Canada.

Cons: However, if you DO need to get tech support be prepared for rude avoidance of your issue. Apparently they are taking Obama's Keystone pipeline denial out on us Americans.

Summary: It appears their system is being neglected. After getting nowhere on their error on my account I even asked about the help button in the webmail inbox screen producing a wacky error message: Just click that help button to see "FATAL ERROR... Access Denied. REASON: Client address not authorized." Huh ? I'm authorized to do every other function in that inbox EXCEPT not authorized to see the help screens ???? Huh ?

When I asked about the help button all I got was evasion... total refusal to answer. They KNOW about it but refuse to discuss. Hmmm. Sounds like they are neglecting their system - cutting maintenance expenses and milking as much as they can until ??? Makes sense... I talked to three people who didn't want to be bothered. Cutting back on staff and compensation does make people cranky. Shucks, and I just paid my annual renewal. My email is critically important... I better start looking for a new home for my website and email host.

"If I could give "0" stars I would" on by sattyaa

Pros: Easy to use if you have money to waste and never need to speak to customer service

    Cons: Rude customer service reps
    High prices

Summary: When I started my business 9 years ago, I needed a simple and affordable web site solution that I could manage myself (especially since I had no knowledge of html).

In the years that have passed register.com has gone from being a customer service oriented ally to the small business owner to now being a company focused on scamming people by charging ridiculous prices for below sub-par services.

As my business grew, the only solution they offered to grow with me was to pay lots of money to have them design and manage my website and marketing which defeats the purpose of why I ever starting working with them in the first place. I obviously wanted to be in control of my website myself.

The ONLY reason I haven't transferred my domain is because of all the horror stories I hear from people who've tried to and have gotten nowhere or even scammed into paying thousands of dollars to get their own domain name back.

I feel trapped. I just paid nearly $200 to renew my domain and ONE email account.

Stay away from these crooks. There are far better companies providing much better service for WAY less money.

    "Absolutely horrible." on by kuehn.rick

    Pros: None. Absolutely none.

Cons: Bad interface, inconsistent (can login to webmail but not POP and vice versa), awful admin tools, expensive, negative customer service.

Customer Service Experience: called to get help, got no help, received survey, completed it stating how awful the expe

Summary: Moving all accounts and hosted services elsewhere.
