"I had high hopes, but I'm very disappointed."
Pros: Good shape, three real finger buttons in addition to a wheel/button - finally!
Cons: Poor tracking at slow speeds, terrible drivers, useless customer support, no updated drivers available for download, not even listed on creative's support page
Summary: This is (or should have been) the mouse I've been waiting for for years. Three real buttons are essential for the CAD software I use and a logical configuration for gaming. There really hasn't been a three button mouse worth buying since the logitech "wedge"/wingman gaming mouse.
I was really excited to get my hands on this mouse, but I have to say it's not ready for prime time...
The most egregious issue IMO is that when you move the mouse slowly, the cursor either moves barely or not at all. That makes it really difficult to use for fine detail work like grabbing the border of a screen to expand, or selecting small elements in illustrator.
I've tried different resolution settings on the mouse, various mouse pads, etc. with no improvement.
I looked on Creative's support site, and the mouse isn't even listed!
I emailed Creative, waited a full day for a response that didn't have any relevance to the issue I described, replied, waited another day for another idiotic suggestion from Creative customer support, replied to that effect (but in a nicely worded email), waited two more days for another email from them suggesting I reinstall the drivers (which I had already done twice) and telling me I would have to return it if that didn't work.
A friend of mine also bought this mouse and he had the same issues.
Very very frustrating.
And to make matters worse, the default configuration has the third button (ring finger) set to "forward" when it obviously should be a right click and the middle button should be a middle button or "autoscroll" as they call it. By default the middle button is set to right click. *Slap on the forehead* It's necessary to use their software to reconfigure the buttons, but doing so messes up the function of the two buttons on my laptop touchpad and conflicts with the three button Logitech mouse I use at home.
If I keep the mouse, I'll have to solder some jumper wires so that the buttons work without their frustrating software.
So close but so far from right? Please Creative, fix this mouse!
