"Yes, there is a Freeze Button"

by ReborneRanger on September 20, 2008

Pros: Freeze Option, In Air Operation, Media Center Integration, Rechargeable, Cordless, Charging Base

Cons: None that I can see.

Summary: I don't own but might purchase soon. The major thing holding me back was the lack of a freeze button according to several reviews on CNET and elsewhere. I just read through the manual and found this to be false. The back button works as a freeze button in the air when pressed for 2 seconds. Pressing the left, right, select, or back buttons after freezing will unfreeze the cursor. I don't know how CNET or the others missed this, but I may go ahead and purchase thanks to this good news. The manual is available here:

The move/freeze button on the Gyration is INSTANTANEOUS. You don't have to hold down a keyboard button for two seconds (quite a long time actually) to do this (which ties you to the keyboard by the way which is something you specifically should not need with an air mouse during a presentation). The problem with the MX Air is that it absolutely cannot tell when you are making an INTENTIONAL motion versus an unintentional CARRYING motion. It's exactly like if you took your optical mouse and taped it to your hand then never lifted your hand off the desktop. You are always moving and it is very disconcerting. I had six months to compare this mouse with the Gyration products and it is definitely inferior in design principle because of the lack of the instant on/off motion control.

Can you assign one of the buttons to instantly freeze the cursor?

Nice catch. I'm curious about this mouse as well, and freeze is pretty important, thanks.
