If you're a right-handed mouse user with an appetite for shortcut buttons and lightning-fast response times, the Logitech MX510 Performance Optical Mouse will be right up your alley. Available in a hypnotic red or blue finish, the mouse also boasts an ergonomic design that'll appeal to gamers and professionals alike. It does not have wireless capability, tethering to your PC via a USB cord, but at least that means you won't have to deal with charging or changing the batteries.

Every button (there are eight total) and speed setting on the MX510 Performance Optical Mouse is customizable using the included software. You'll appreciate the software especially if you're not used to having forward and back shortcuts on the side of your mouse, because the two here are somewhat prone to accidental presses. But in terms of performance, feel, and appearance, the Logitech MX510 makes a great choice for anyone who wants more from their mouse. Its optical sensor has an 800dpi (dots per inch) resolution, making the mouse sensitive enough for all but the most demanding gamer, and even graphics professionals will appreciate the consistency of the MX510 Performance Optical Mouse's finely tuned response.

Best mouse I have ever owned.

Pros: great feel, beautiful design, 8 customizable buttons, plug and play , very accurate, comfortable.

Cons: extremely minor fault, after 7 years of use some of the color is fading away on the logitech logo.......

Review: The bottom line summary is that this mouse has been the best mouse I have ever purchased because it has worked perfectly for 7 years now. When I first purchased this mouse I was blown away by how accurate it was, all the shortcut buttons, and just the holographic design wow.. What really impressed me though is after all those clicks during the years of gaming and all the friction the bottom of this mouse has encountered it is still absolutely perfect.

Great mouse, lasted me 4+ years!

Pros: Really durable mouse. Lasted me through several years of very hardcore gaming, and the minor temper tantrums resulting from said gaming.

Cons: No cons... I've never been more pleased with a mouse.

Review: It's been almost 5 years since first purchasing, and it's held up pretty well, considering the amount of use it's gotten. About 2 years ago, the scroll wheel started acting up, and I actually went out and bought a MX518 to replace it, but the issue sorted itself out pretty much the day the new mouse arrived. The wheel did start clicking around that time too, but it wasn't a big deal. A few months ago, one of the feet came off, but it was still useable, so it stayed attached to my machine, happily plugging away. Sadly, today it just died. Out of nowhere, my little red light just shut off, and wouldn't come back on. Happily, I still had the MX518 in the box, totally unopened, so that is now plugged in and working just as well, if not better, than the 510. Of course, if I had it my way, I'd still be using the MX510, but nothing lasts forever, and it definitely rose above and beyond my expectations.

Awsome Mouse

Pros: Very comfortable

Cons: makes a lot of noise when you click the left and right buttons

Review: Overall this mouse is amazing. I use it to play World of Warcraft and many other games and it works flawlessly. One of the best optical mice you can by, I highyl reccomend it. The only downside is that it does makes more noise than a regular mouse when you use the left and right click buttons but I got used to that. But still a great buy!!!!

The best, most inexpensive, and button laden optical mouse I could find to date

Pros: optical, scroll wheel, 8 buttons, good accuracy, no skipping or jumping, alot of options to program those buttons

Cons: the top and bottom most buttons are somewhat harder to access, tries to install Logitech ads on your PC from install CD

Review: I was in the market for a new mouse. 2 Button ball mouse, and even 3 (including the wheel) button optical wouldn't cut it anymore. Definately had to be optical with scroll wheel and 5 buttons as I went to an in laws house for the weekend and got TOO used to the back and forward buttons for web browsing, which I do a lot of. Laser mouse and anything above $45 would be overkill for my uses and budget. Ditto with cordless mice, but with extra inconveniences of having to worry about charging batteries and extra heft for the batteries

I was going to spring for a cheap Microsoft 5 button optical mouse with each shortcut key on either side, but I was sure glad i sprung the extra $5 for this baby. The extra 2 side buttons are defaulted to back and forward for web browsing and even in windows navigation (they're hotkeyed to be alt+left and alt+right). I do lots of web browsing and navigate around my folders alot, so that's good news. I like how there's a thumb rest for your thumb when you're not using the side buttons. Nice contour to it.

From here, you need the CD as winXP can only recognize those 2 extra buttons. Installation is straighforward if you've installed windows apps before. If you don't like extra junk, opt out on installing the component that puts Logitech ads/brochures in your start folder (it's its own program) as well as the other stuff like a utility to auto search Logitech's site from time to time for updated drivers. These components are easy to opt out. Just uncheck them from the install screen. I don't see the point to the electronic brochures when they also include hardcopy brochures in the packaging, but at least it isn't instrusive. Hasn't bugged me once since i accidentally installed it.

The bottom most button below the wheel is similar to pressing alt+tab, but with a vertical list of open apps u can click to quick switch. It even lets you switch to windows not listed on the taskbar, like when you right click My Computer then properties.

The one above that (below the scroll wheel) and above the wheel are defaulted to up scroll up and down, but with buttons instead of a wheel (like pressing up and down on a IE webpage). It's an alternative to the wheel (despite its better precision sometimes) since it takes more movement to activate the wheel. The bottom got remapped to minimize (VERY USEFUL IMO) while the top got mapped to alternative scroll (think of the hand icon in Acrobat Reader). I fgired close would work out well for that top button but I ended up accidentally closing windows on occasion.

The buttons reachable by me easily (my mid finger is 3.125"), but the top and bottom most buttons aligned with the wheel take a little more stretching or curving of the finger to get. Longer fingers will find this to not be an issue.

Good accuracy, my games like FPS (Halo, Doom3) yield better results in accuracy and speed. This was never a concern for productivity, but it is nice to see skipping nor aren't an issue anymore. My old MS Optical Wheelman 3 button mouse would jump a whole screen even with the slightest movement. I thought it was the wood grain pattern of my desk throwing the sensor, but upon switching to my mx510, this never came up

Fantastic gaming mouse

Pros: It's red, it's wired, it's USB (but has an adapter for PS/2), very accurate, more buttons than you can shake a stick at

Cons: It has a wire; right-handed

Review: Very hot mouse, works well with my black case & red LEDs. It's very accurate, doesn't skip, perfect for headshots. Easily the best mouse I've had. It does have a wire though, which is both good and bad, good because you get an immediate response, bad because wires aren't trendy. Pick this one up, or the MX518/MX1000

Red or Blue?

Pros: Red is Cheaper

Cons: It's not Blue

Review: I am still confused as two why Logitech release a Red and a Blue color of this model that are exactly the same, yet the price for the Blue color model is more. Perplexing!
Excellent mouse for gaming, and usuall computer funtions. Only problem is that is is still not designed for guys with big hands.. your pinky finger will get rubbed off from your mouse pad when playing hours of CS:S

Very accurate optical mouse

Pros: This mouse is accurate. It can track well, even on surfaces where most other optical mice have tacking problems. The additional buttons makes web browsing and navigation easier. Because this mouse is chorded, it weighs very light.

Cons: The shape of the mouse amd the location of the two thumb buttons favor right handed people.
