Summary: After two years of solid use, my Razer Mamba died on me. I did some research and came across the Logitech G700 gaming mouse. At $99 CDN, it was still a little pricey, but not as expensive as the Mamba.
I grip my mouse with my thumb and the side of my ring finger and this fits comfortably in my hand. It features a material that almost feels abrasive when you first start using it, but you do get used to it and it helps provide extra grip. The top of the mouse surface is smooth though.
The ability to change DPI settings on the fly, the extra programmable buttons and the Setpoint software are all great features of this mouse. Haven't had any issues with them yet, having used the mouse for over two months now.
The free scroll and the ratchet are something I thought I would never get used to, having not ever used anything like it before. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. It takes a bit of work training your fingers to reach a button behind the scroll wheel, but it's not much.
The one major downside to the G700 is the battery life. The thing eats through batteries like they're candy. It only uses one battery, which is probably why it eats through them so quickly. Logitech could have saved its customers a lot of frustration by designing the mouse to use two batteries. At the most, you'd get a day or so of heavy use out this mouse, so best to stock up on some rechargeable double As. I have to say I'm particularly glad that the mouse didn't come with a charging base either, as I was growing tired of the night-light that the Mamba had shipped with.
If you can put up with the thing eating through batteries, this is an awesome gaming mouse.
