    "Very good but..."

by kuremiya on June 1, 2005

Pros: Long battery life, general ergonomics

Cons: requires a system restart occasionally, some buttons are difficult to access

Summary: It's an expensive mouse but I like the fact that it's cordless, looks great and is ergonomic.

That said.. from the day I bought it occasionally does not respond after my computer has gone into standby mode. Screen comes on, I see the pointer but nothing I do gets the mouse to respond (except restarting my system). Battery lights show full power, and the reset buttons do nothing to fix the problem.

I have experienced the same things that kuremiya has with his MX1000. In addition, the mouse is extremely uncomfortable, impossible to fine-tune with the available software, so that selecting and de-selecting with the mouse is a cumbersome experience, to say the least. Everytime I log in I get a prompt that Logitech wants to check for updates. I have always ignored this prompt until just recently. Logitech then supposedly updated my software, although it didn't tell me what it did. I thought maybe there would be an improvement. There was NONE. What there was, however, was almost immediate spam from Logitech trying to sell me products!!! That is what they apparently call an update. I am about to get a new mouse and will steer clear of all Logitech products!

I have a 3 year old Logitech mouse with the same problem. I am running Windows Vista. When I called Logitech, I was told there is no new driver for Vista yet, but they are working on it.

I've had the MX1000 for a year and a half and it has never caused either of my systems to lock up. It works as well on my laptop as it does on my desktop.

XP, by default, places you USB ports in powersave mode, regardless of if you are using a laptop or not. The fix is to turn that off by going into Device Manager, USB configuration, USB Root Hub, and disabling power save on every root hub you have.

You will also find that other devices, like USB drives and thumb drives suddenly work better.
