"Lacks nothing"
Pros: Lots of buttons, lots of appeal, noticeable sensitivity
Cons: Software required even on XP
Summary: From the row of mouses available at BestBuy, the MX510 definitely stood out the most. I was looking for a replacement for my old mouse and was surprised to find this on sale for $30 CDN. The scrolling buttons just in front and just behind the scrolling wheel often tend to be more useful than the wheel itself, even after only two days of use. And I find myself reaching for the IE back and forward buttons far less often, since the two thumb buttons are so convenient. Although the increased sensitivity, due to the mouse's MX Optical Engine, probably won't be noticed by most, it makes a difference when highlighting text and doing detailed work on graphics applications, like Adobe Photoshop. Although the shape needs some getting used to, especially after switching from the older generation curves, I can't stop staring at the mouse. By chance, this product matches the cherry oak finish of my computer desk, and since it is also available in blue, it will likely match many decors. At first, I was hoping to get plug & play compatibility right out of the box, but unfortunately, not all of the buttons work right away, even while using XP, which should download the appropriate drivers. But installing the mouse with the included software was no problem. The task-switching button is also handy, though it's really just a substitute for the alt+tab method. The mouse's strong points are its look and accuracy. As for buttons, Logitech could easily have thrown in an unlabelled thumb button, which could become a double-click or a drag-lock. But I am satisfied regardless.
