"Best mouse I've ever used!"
Pros: Just right hand feel. Great size, great glide, great bump for my palm to rest on, great weight, sure actions of all the buttons. Optical scroll "wheel" is insanely great - a remarkable innovation.
Cons: Haven't found anything to complain about. Seriously the best mouse I've ever used - and I have dozens of crappy and broken mice in my junk drawer to prove it. Only con (and it doesn't affect me) is that there is no Windows version.
Summary: I find that the optical scroll is really great. Basic installation is very easy. You use standard Mac System Preferences to adjust tracking and scroll speeds - and I've found they have all the range I need to have these functions work perfectly. The Targus specific drive lets you set what the thumb buttons do - very easy, and it has really useful built in choices, as well as ability to customize.
The scroll has a feature that lets you flick your finger, and the scrolling continues automatically until you touch the scroll sensor again. Kind of like the scrolling on an iPhone. Very neat - I don't know of any other mice with this feature.
And the left and right buttons are distinct and have definite clicks - unlike the Mighty Mouse which makes it hard to get a reliable right click a lot of the time.
It is OK for left handed people, too. Shape is totally symmetrical except for the location of the thumb buttons.
Maybe it is because I have the latest version of OS X, but I really don't understand all the complaints about not being able to adjust the scrolling sensor to work at reasonable speed and sensitivity. It takes a little bit getting used to, but I'm finding I have much more control over scrolling than I did with the Mighty Mouse ball. And this one won't get dirty and stop working after a couple of months.
I would think the USB version of this mouse would work almost exactly the same.
There is a delay in re-acquisition of the mouse when coming out of sleep, but this is a "feature" of Bluetooth, and not this mouse.
To summarize why I think this is the best mouse I've ever used:
Just right size, shape, weight, and buttons (including only two thumb buttons).
Really great scrolling control with optical sensor instead of mechanical wheel or ball. Cool auto-scroll gesture.
Very stylish design - but that's just a bonus.
Designed to work on the Mac from the ground up. (But Targus should release a Windows version asap).
