Great mid-price stereo mic
Pros: Great: audio reproduction, features, look and feel
Cons: A short stereo XLR cable would be really nice
Since the mic uses XLR connections, I plug it into an XLR adapter (BeachTek DXA-6) which plugs into the camcorder's 1/8" mic-in jack.
When used for stage or studio recording applications, the long included cable makes sense - in my environment, a short (1-2 feet?) cable is much more appropriate.
The AT-825 can use phantom power (provided by the BeachTek DXA-6 (XLR adapter) or can be self-powered by a single AA battery. (Unlike the Shure VP-88 which needs an odd battery not typically found at the local convenience store.)
The included foam windscreen does about as well as can be expected for a foam windscreen - get one from Rykote or make your own zeppelin if you are in windy environments.
And the included soft-case provides enough protection in Pelican gig cases.
If you don't need XLR connectors, the AT-822 is the essentially same mic, but with 1/8" connectors - and does not allow phantom power.
If I had to do this over, I would buy the AT-825 again. It is a great stereo mic - and it looks cool, too.
