Summary Documents To Go is a great way to view, edit, and create Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations on Palm powered handheld computers.
I bought Documents To Go from their website, www.dataviz.com, for $29.99 USD. The regular price was $49.99 USD, but I had an older version bundled with my handheld. It offered me the option of getting it on CD or downloading it, both for the same price. I chose CD. I was surprised when it asked me if I also wanted to download it, for no extra charge, so I could begin using it right away. As of now, I have never seen this on any software download site.
You can use Documents To Go two ways. You can drag a .doc, .xls, or .ppt file to the Documents To Go icon on your desktop. Next time you HotSync, it is on your handheld under Documents. If you make a change on either the handheld or the computer, the change will carry over onto the copy of the file on the other device.
You can also create files on the handheld. When you HotSync, the file will be created in a folder, by default the My Documents folder.
The Documents manager
When you tap the "Documents" button on your handheld, you see a list of all the documents on your handheld. You can limit the view to different categories or file types. You see three columns: The icon for the file type, the file name, the file size, whether it will be transferred onto the computer, and whether it is on the card or the main handheld memory.
Word To Go
When you open a Word To Go file, you see a window with the document, and a toolbar along the bottom. The toolbar contains commands for closing the document, cut, copy, paste, bold, italic, underline, page justification, and bulleting. There is a menu with additional functions that do not fit on the toolbar. These are numbering, spell checking, bookmarks, zoom, increase indent, insert hyperlink, undo, and redo. You can click the small triangle button to hide the toolbars and give you more space to work with.
The spellchecker works surprisingly well. My only problem is that to get suggestions, which take about five seconds to generate, you need to tap a button. It also supports adding words to the dictionary.
Sheet To Go
Sheet To Go is a very functional spreadsheet program. However, it cannot compete with Excel on your main computer for features.
Slideshow To Go
Slideshow To Go is the most limited application in the Documents To Go suite. It only allows you to create slide titles and bullet points. However, you can view almost any feature in a slideshow.
File synchronization has worked fine for me so far. I have noticed no problems.
