  • "There is a fix if you know you will not need 4G."
    on by TNSearcher

    Pros Easy to set up.
Verizon email support tried to help and gave me several things I could try. (not successful)

Cons Set up should offer more options to configure the modem to each user's needs and location.
The modem constantly disconnected and did not reconnect on its own. I had to manually connect every 5-10 minutes.

Summary I live in the country and will never get 4G. My previous UM175 modem did a great job. It did not disconnect when the signal was weak. It just kept trying. I also use a router on occasion (Cradlepoint CTR35 now, previously CTR350).
I switched because the 4G plan is less expensive.

After trying the fixes suggested by Verizon email support and before spending more time calling Verizon Support, I spent a few hours searching for an answer myself. I found a fix at the EVDOinfo.com site

    http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/3492/64/

Although it is intended for those using the router, the Pantech Modem Utility download will allow the modem to work in 3G whether connected to the computer or the router.
At this time, I have been connected for over 2 hours and have not had a bit of trouble.
I hope this information is helpful to others.

  • "Not sufficiently tested and constantly disconnects."
    on by Bigun89

Pros In a pure 4G area (no 3G) this product would work fine, it would also work fine if left on "Manual Connect" settings.

Cons Everything else, leaving it on the default settings it disconnects constantly and doesn't consistently find the 4G network and connects to 3G instead.

Summary Until they come out with some newer firmware or a newer device.... STAY AWAY! This review is current as of 8/4/2011.

  • "Not dependable"
    on by redding101

Pros Good when it is connected

Cons Disconnects daily, A pain to get it connected again

  • "Drops connections every few minutes"
    on by Fast Eddy

    Pros Haven't found any yet

Cons Unreliable. Verizon replaced my first one and the replacement does exactly the same thing. I've tried to convince their customer service folks that there is a generic problem, and told them to just do a google search and they will see hundreds of referenc

Summary I've tried using this directly connected to a laptop, and also with a Cradlepoint MBR1000 router. Makes no difference; it drops the signal every few minutes and requires being reset. This is a major pain. I've gone back to my good old reliable V740 Expresscard, which works flawlessly in the MBR1000.

  • "Disconnects Constantly"
    on by bkimbler2

    Pros Fast and good price

    Cons Disconnects constantly
    A little big

Summary I love Verizon but this device is defective. Great signal (northern MN) but disconnects after a few minutes of use. Went back to my Verizon 3G modem since it worked flawlessly. Try the other 4G modem or wait for a fix.
