"This product does not work out of the box"
Pros: None, to have pros the unit actually has to work
Cons: This product does not work out of the box due to an invalid map code supplied with the unit. Repeated emails to Support have gone unanswered.
Summary: This is a terrible product and the total lack of support is indicative of a company that has no respect for it's customers.

I had this problem with my archos 605 also and didn't have much luck with customer service. However, after exploring the forums for awhile I found that if you open the instructions that come on the disk and follow the linux instructions(it will guide you to a step by step website) it works. A word of advice, when it comes time to enter your map version even though your gps didn't come with one enter the example version and that works.

I believe I am experiencing a similar problem as you - getting an error code with the Archos is updating after installation. I have both called Archos and sent an e-mail when I did not receive an e-mail with software that the phone rep promised to send me the following day. Have they responded to my e-mail? NO. Have you made any progress?
