"Good Convenience, Mediocre Performance" on by lleong322

Pros: IR Remote, Stylish, Portable, Multi-Functional

    Cons: Mediocre Sound, Pricey

Summary: After a long internal battle with myself, I finally splurged and got these speakers. I am pleased with the design of the system. The exposed speakers and the blue LED light on top make the system feel modern and compliments the styling of the Zen Micro perfectly.

The IR remote is the best part of the system. I no longer have to get up and walk across the room to turn up the volume or change tracks. I was just using a pair of old computer speakers as a "stereo system." Sad, I know. From the perspective of an about-to-be-starving college student, these speakers are a good step up from the computer speakers but they definitely will not satisfy the more hardcore audiophiles. The highs and mids are well represented but bass is lacking. I think the optional subwoofer is a must and if you have a subwoofer already, use that. It was nice of Creative to include the subwoofer cable, FM antenna, and line-in cables with the speakers.

Classical and instrumental music sounds pretty good but for more bass heavy rap and rock, the speakers just can't provide enough bass to rock the house. These speakers can get pretty loud and I didn't find them to distort unless it was really loud. Sometimes there's a little background hiss but it's negligible. I was impressed with the "wide stereo effect" of the speakers because they can fill a whole room with music from corner to corner. I did not expect something so small to make so much sound.

Another thing that I liked about these speakers is that they can run on just four AAs for around 20 hours, making this system truly portable. The system also feels pretty soild and shouldn't break easly. I would be cautious when plugging and unplugging your player as bending the plugs would destroy the whole system.

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with these speakers. They are just a little expensive and have mediocre sound that won't satisfy people who are used to having high quality headphones and/or a high quality home stereo system.

"for what it is, it doesnt sound bad" on by puckboy44

Pros: easily portable, good sound, decent battery life

Cons: the remote can be tricky, distorts at high volume

Summary: i have had the travel dock for a few months now and i am very happy with it, it fits nicely in a carry on with out taking up a lot of space, it serves to charge my player when i am traveling, and it doesnt sound bad as long as you dont play it too loud. the unit is a bit tricky in that you have to balance the volume control on the speakers against the volume control on the player otherwise you will get a distorted mess, once you figure this out the sound quality is not bad. the travel dock is made exactly for that, traveling, if you are looking for something to use at home you may be dissapointed by it, but if you are looking for something to take on the road with you, the travel dock works quite well. getting the add on sub woofer available thru the creative website may make it more suitable for home use, but i dont think thats really what the travel dock was designed for. the fact that it charges your player is a nice bonus when you are away from home.

"I think that it sounds pretty decent" on by farkle

Pros: Sound is really decent for a small speaker system of this size, it sounds MUCH better than my sister's AltecLansing minIMMINI speakers.

Cons: slightly thin sound, especially for bass. heavy, and bulky; but aren't almost all speaker systems?

Summary: I think that, with the exception of fairly thin bass, this player has great potential to become a standard for most any Zen micro Photo owner.

Best Buy sells them for $129.99 and right now has a $30.00 instant rebate. Cheaper than most other iPod speakers.

"Excellent value for the money!" on by neanabug

Pros: Loud, great sound ... Excellent party starter!!!

    Cons: Doesn't powersave mp3 player

Summary: I have had the Creative Zen TravelDock for several months and I LOVE it. I have taken it on 3 vacations and found that it delivers what it promises. It's cute, compact speakers folds into a protective case. I even used it as the central music source for a recent party and the volume filled the whole house. It's not BOSE sound quality, but it is an excellent portable vacation unit & great for home use. I highly recommend it.
