"Major QA issues! Would be great if it worked though."
Pros: onscreen menu browsing! easy setup
Cons: bought and returned 2 of these - both had quality issues, both fried my iPod
Summary: I was really excited when I read the cnet review for this - I'd been looking for a dock with which I could browse the menus of my ipod on my TV screen. There aren't many options out there for this functionality.
The first one I bought at Fry's. I got it home, set it up, connected my new 160 GB iPod classic, and even synced it to my Harmony 890 remote, and it was beautiful. Sound was great, onscreen menu browsing was easy, and I even figured out how to watch tv shows from my iPod on the TV. And then, I noticed the pause button didn't work on the Harmony, so I tried the DLO remote - no pause. Checked DLO's online cusmtomer support - nothing. No phone number, no email, nothing. A few FAQs but none addressed this issue. The major bummer about this is that when music is playing, if the phone rings or you need to stop the music for a minute, your only option is to completely turn the unit off.
Only problem is, after doing this a few times, my ipod wouldn't come back on. When I took my ipod back to my PC to sync it, iTunes wouldn't recognize it - it was fried. I left it connected anyway, and after a couple of days (!), Itunes finally recognized it and gave me the option to completely reset it, which took another couple of days.
Still, I was thinking, ok, so I got one defective DLO dock. I'll return it and buy another from another place. So I bought my second one from Best Buy online.
EXACT same problem! The pause button on the remote didn't work, and after having my iPod in the dock for a few hours, it fried again.
I then checked Amazon.com to see the customer review there - no one mentioned the pause button, but a couple of people mentioned that there is a static issue that causes iPods to fry.
I truly hope that either DLO fixes these issues, or that someone else comes out with a better product! This would have been great.
