"The best in it's class"
Pros: Standout design, amazing sound, great bottom end sound, rock solid built, super portable
Cons: Pricey, small confusing remote, hidden power on button, no onboard EQ, no batteries means no picnics
Summary: I went to Best Buy last weekend and saw and heard Bose SoundDock (whatever), the Altec Lansing InMotion (1980's cheap) and the JBL Radial, which I bought.
I moved it around my house (the design acts like a built-in handle) from my dining room to my bathroom to my living room to check the sound - not only did it exceed my "expectations" for a portable unit, but it looks like a piece of art. The downside is the remote was confusing and I had a really hard time intuitively using to move artists and tracks. (The truth is the it's stupid for anyone to think that a unit like this even needs a remote because iPod screens are so small you face has to be against them anyway to visually scroll through songs and artists).
You will not believe the bottom end sound on this thing from the built in subwoofer underneath - I listened tribal house, dynamic rock, and french jazz. You will not believe the crisp highs and mids, and will not believe the ambient way it throws sound around the room. My girlfriend kept coming over and saying "There is so much sound coming out of that thing". We cranked the sound up with very little distortion.
Seriously, do not waste your time or money on anything but the JBL - you will seriously be shocked at the sound.
Read my Pros and Cons to manage your expectations.
