"Good product, if you don't live in or near the city"
Pros: Compact; backlit; fits in seamlessly with the iPod mini; matches iPod; good transmission quality.
Cons: Small = easy to lose to some of us; will only tune as low as 88.1; difficult to find an open frequency.
Summary: (Review is based off of a car stereo)
Most of the time I'd try to steer clear of an FM transmitter, but there really aren't a whole lot of other options out there without an aftermarket car stereo. The AirPlay was a pretty nice piece of equipment, if you can find an open frequency and you don't have a tremendously powerful radio antenna (I drive a Lexus and live in Chicago... bad combination of a powerful antenna and no open radio frequencies.) Most radios will tune as low as 87.5 or so, but unfortunately (in my case, anyway), this unit only goes to 88.1. It does fit the iPod mini seamlessly; the curved edge and thickness match up without a glitch, and still allow the ?Hold? switch to be accessed and used. The AirPlay does cut down the battery life, so I wouldn?t recommend it for a long road trip unless you brought along a charger. Although small, the LCD is backlit blue (which doesn?t match the iPod?s white backlighting, if you?re picky) and relatively easy to read.
The bottom line: try to find an open radio frequency before buying (search around the 88-89.X and 107.X range, there usually aren?t a whole lot of radio stations occupying those frequencies). If you can find one, go for it.
