Pros Minimalist design, simple hook up and respectable sound quality
Cons Remote control
Summary The entire Zvox line of sound bars sets the standard for performance and design simplicity. It will certainly not offer the dimension of true surround sound. However, its clean lines and limited number of wire hookups will appeal to all of you "wire haters".
Pros I modified a book case to accommodate a Panasonic plasma (P50GT25) and underneath the tv built a space for the ZVOX 575 SHD. It looks great and the sound is incredible. Too many home theater owners over emphasize the bass to the point of distraction. The
Cons The blue led "on" light could be dimmer.
Summary Looks good enough to get by the decorating committee and sounds good enough to please almost anyone.
Pros Mounts under the HDTV. Great sound for movies, music, voice - all clear at low and high volume. Built in sub-woofers. Easy installation. Simple RCA or optical input from the HDTV. Great sound projection. It was a steal for the price.
Cons None worth mentioning.
Summary I did some research on surround sound systems and we visited Best Buy's high-end surround sound room. The speakers were very expensive. They couldn't get the rear speakers to work and they insisted on playing them at ultra high volume. It would have been difficult to predict how any of these would have sounded in our home.
Our TV room is a relatively small rectangle and we sit along the longer back wall opposite the HDTV so we weren't sold on the need for a surround sound 5.1 system. We didn't look forward to stringing speaker wire through the attic or under the house for the rear speakers, or to have to deal with a full-blown receiver/speaker system. So I started looking at sound bar systems. Quite by accident after hearing a review of a different brand, I saw Matt Moskovciak's CNET review of the smaller ZVOX-525. He rated it very high for a sound bar system.
We ordered the 575 because of the size of our TV and because it has two sub-woofers. It installs under the TV, very neat and uncluttered. We're using the RCA connection from the TV although an optical connection is also available. The ZVOX is self powered. All of the adjustments are on the remote. You can set the level for the sub-woofers and the degree of "surround". We are totally blown away by how good this system sounds. We usually keep the volume at conversational levels and this system provides accurate sound for movies for speaking, effects, and music. Same at higher volume. The two sub-woofers provide great non-directional boomage - they face down. An output is provided for an independent sub-woofer. The speaker design projects so it simulates surround sound. Great design. It was a steal for the price. A rare find. ZVOX nailed it.
