Pros: Only thing new. . is available by new software/firmware

    Cons: No new hardware!

Summary: What is the Preview editor thinking? "Much improved"? How is that? How is an itunes update and a firmware update (to add podcasts) much improved for the same price? They desperately need a real hardware update with new features.

Apple refreshed its iPod lineup to include (now this is the exciting part) all color screen ipods except for their mini's. Added Podcasts to iTunes. Talk about a feature update. Big news huh? Didn't think so. And they dropped a 30gig mp3 player. So either buy the overpriced $300 20 gig, or the overpriced $400 60gig. And I say overpriced, because there are players out there that will do what iPod does and 4X as much. Search for "X5" at Cnet. Clearly a win-win situation for the consumer? HMMM =P

Apple is LONG overdue with their entry player to support video/fm tuner/voice recorder. This announcement is almost as bad as the introduction of the iPod Shuffle. Seriously, give us something to talk about =\

It's so funny to read beeyotchy comments from those who 1) don't own the product and 2) clearly have a problem with the COMPANY who manufactures the products. The will post anything negative that they can even if it means stupidly whining about new features not being "new" or good enough. What's it to you. You aren't going to buy an iPod and you clearly hate Apple so why do you constantly whine about their products? You should be GLAD you aren't buying one if you constantly have problems with them.

Though I would LOVE to see your reaction to the NEW iPod with Video (out after your "review". Does THAT have enough features to please you? Or are you going to complain that the screen is too small or that Apple should already have a Blockbuster sized library of movies ready to download.
whine whine whine.

My Apple stock is doing great.

the new 20gb ipod should not even be considererd a new ipod. All it does is add some battery life and put in a color screen that weve all seen before. The ipod costs 300$, my 20gb cowon iaudio x5 costs 300$ too and it has an fm radio, video playback, line in and out recording, voice recording, phot viewing, text viewing, fm recording, and can even be used as a detachable hard drive on the computer. The ipod is long overdue for some REAL improvements instead of some extra usless features.

Why don’t you do a little research before writing your reviews! They updated the battery life from 12 to 15, I usually get around 17. And although I don’t need it the beautiful color screen is GREAT!

The iPod is Apple's MP3 player. It's not a video player. If you want to play videos, then go ahead and buy your X5. I'll admit, it sounds like a neat little gadget, but when are you going to actually watch videos on it? Who is going to stare at a tiny screen for a full-length movie? Also, you think that all this is overpriced, then why has it been selling so well?

What you don't get is most iPod users will NEVER use a voice recorder, so it isn't needed. Also, how much music do you steal that you would need 30 gigs anyway?

What would be a major improvement would be to make a 5 gig model, in color and charge $150.

If the ipod is lacking in every area and the x5 crushes it across the board, why do you think ipod has the highest marketshare? It may be just a minor upgrade, but and upgrade none the less to the most user friendly mp3 player out there.

I'll be honest: I'm generally very partial to Apple, and the iPod. It's no fluke that Apple holds 76% of the mp3 player market. When it comes to elegance, style, and friendliness, nothing else out there that can touch the iPod. But xpose was right; some innovation is way overdue.
Xpose's ideas are nice and all (I would especially like audio recording), but I think apple's #1 priority should be setting up an iTunes supscription service. I simply can't justify buying an iPod when it precludes using the cheapest and friendliest way of accessing music (legally speaking).
Oh, and one last thing. How about this for a firmware update: a shuffle feature that actually works?

The new iPod 20GB comes with better battery life, a color screen, and the ability to directly upload digital photos (albeit with a separate connector), all for the same price as the older 20GB model. I'd call that much improved, especially when talking about Apples slow, methodical progression in updating products. Perhaps this isn’t justification enough for people that just recently purchased a older 20GB model, but those of us that own a 1st - 3rd generation iPod may find this option very attractive. (although, your right, I'm missing that 30GB iPod right about now)
