"Though not perfect, a standout among competition." on by daleroomin

Pros: high resolution photo, interface, sound

    Cons: scratches easy, itunes

Summary: The iPod is sleek. It has massive storage potential and it’s the "gotta have" item of this decade so far. Despite these positives, the iPod has some turndowns. Mostly, Apple has really dropped the ball on usability and interface here. While initially it seems neat to have a clickwheel with integrated buttons, it actually makes the iPod more difficult to use, which is not typical of Apple's reputation. They probably did short-term usability focus-groups which would result in good ratings. But after you own it for a month or two... You'll notice that hitting the FWD button sometimes also turns the volume up/down since the button is on the same wheel to change the volume. Also, and often, turning off the iPod takes several attempts, probably because the same button to turn off the player is the same one to play and pause music. You may have to click and hold the button several times to get it to work. Anyway, I got my ipod from (freegiftlinks .com) , this web has cool info on how to get ipods and other goodies, it was so cool, 3 steps and I got my ipod. I clicked on the ipod image, registered, signed for a blockbuster offer, got my ipod within 2weeks, just go to freegiftlinks .com and get an ipod, for only 10bucks just do the blockbuster offer, on which you can get a refund, and get your ipod. It sucks that it’s only one per householder. The interface also makes it too easy to accidentally hit buttons and change songs, settings, etc. They have a "hold" switch to prevent this by locking the player, but then each time you want to change songs, etc., you have to switch the "hold" feature to off. Really could be more ergonomically designed.

"one of the best devices of the current millenium" on by niko521a

Pros: easy to use, brilliant pictures, great sound stylish

Cons: add fm and ability to watch mpg avi mov those are only cons

Summary: if you are looking for an mp3 media player, and you dont buy an apple, you must hate apple. these are more pricey, but you get what you pay for. buy the mini if you dont have alot of music, buy the 60 gig if you want one that will last you forever. battery life is fine, follow the instructions to maintiain battery life. works seamlessly with itunes to organize your music. go to apple.com/support and there are over 30 individual movies to watch to learn how to use ipods and itunes for macs or pc's. after buying one of these, i bought a mac mini, proof the ipod halo effect is real not myth. I wont lie, mine died after 90 days, the hard drive failed. but you dont see this often in the reviews, its a rare occurance, but hard drive failure is a fact of life. apple behavior was excellent here. i contacted apple online and the next day I had a box at my door step with instructions and pre paid frieght to mail the ipod to cali. I was able to follow the status online. I wasnt happy with the 11 days to get my product back, but they took an extra day to engrave mine ( i was given a brand new one) with the same engraving I had on my original. I paid nothing for the replacement, not a red c ent, and I got an ipod shuffle from an electronics store and took it back after i got my ipod back. Ill do this sometimes, but I always purchase something with the money, in this case, a new car stereo . so thats how I justify doing it LOL. overall, i cant give this item a 10, but its as close as you can get. apple, add fm, add movie capability!

"A solid mp3 player, althouth there are issues" on by hajosou

    Pros: greta interface screen, sound

    Cons: Scratchible, itunes compatibility

Summary: 1) I bought my 30gb photo three weeks back. Already it has lot of scratches and yet the ipod isn't dropped and it hasn't come into contact with any pointed objects which cause scratches. In one pocket I put the ipod alone to protect it from scratches but of no use. Literally one is forced to buy a protective cover after owning an ipod. Even the transparent packing cover in which the brand new ipod comes causes scratches on it. If you dont believe, go read reviews of others who felt the same thing. After you get your new ipod remember to remove the cover on it immediately to prevent any scratches. For the amount of money we invest in buying this expensive thing, we atleast expect it to be scratch resistant.

2)Before going for higher mem capacities of ipod, keep in mind that you should have same amount of free space in you PC. Do not think that you can delete songs on your PC after uploading them to your ipod. iTunes doesnt allow you to download them back to your PC. To do that you have to buy a third party software again. This is a ridiculous restriction on the freedom of the people who own their players and songs.

3)This happened to me only once and never repeated. In the dying hours of the battery, my ipod behaved wierdly and did not respond at all.

To sum it all, ipod may be the king in the market and sought after crazily to be given importance to such things I observed. But these things have to be taken care of immediately. You are mistaken if you think that after owning an ipod its an end to the huge investment you made. In fact its just the beginning.

"Still the best possibly, getting better definitely!" on by Andre Cox

    Pros: Accessories and expandability

    Cons: Where's my dock?

Summary: I have had ever generation of the standard IPod, and this is definitely the best produced so far. It's compact enough to fit in my shirt pocket. The Click Wheel still hasn't been bettered by any other MP3 player and sounds great with my excellent ER4p's. And I keep all my contacts on it too, with a few choice photos as well.

But what really makes this MP3 player standout above the rest, is the expandability. I have my dock (from a previous model) plugged into the Home Theatre unit and just slip the IPod into it when I get home, then I have a remote so I can control (basic) functions even from my bedroom, whilst it is charging! And there's all that other stuff, Voice recording, Radio, FM tuning in the car radio lots of speaker systems designed for the IPod. Other models do give you these free, but I personally don't need them so...

However ITunes, even though better than the competition, is in my 'I'm a software developer' opinion, only ok!.

To get full marks, it would need to be a little smaller (Ipod mini with a 60Gb Mr. Jobs!), with a bigger screen, zoom available on showing photos, line in recording and add in the dock with a IR remote which actually shows what's doing on from the screen. And up the sound quality a tad.

My most indispensable gadget since it first came out in 1st gen 5Gb!

Oh and for all those that think that 30Gb let alone 60Gg is more than should be required, I have 100Gb of CD downloaded music, which is not even a third my CD collection, and there's nothing more annoying than 'I wish I put ??? on the player'!

"A good player with some drawbacks" on by chaikunet

Pros: Great navigation, speed, size, color screen, performance

    Cons: EXTREMELY scratchy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Summary: Higher Memory Capacity in small size has been the strength behind ipod to be successful. I want to concentrate mainly on the negative aspects of iPod as positive aspects are known to many.
