"You Just Don't Get It" on by Tech2005

Pros: Tiny, wearable, easy to Navigate

    Cons: None - read below.

Summary: I just don't understand all of the complaining about "no screen." Waaaaaah. Look outside of your own universe people. There are those of us who want to go to the gym, or ride a bike, or go jogging and we don't need 120,000 songs and we don't want to bother with a screen and looking up artists, songs, etc. and I don't want this dead weight hanging off an armband or in a pocket. I want compactness and compatibility. I have a nano and it doesn't play video, but I don't *****. I understand its purpose. You need to understand why this product is being made and who is ultimately going to use it and buy it. Finally, I find it amusing how everyone talks about its functionality and lack of a screen, etc., but no-one talks about the sound quality...it's a freakin' music player after all! Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh - I just want to complain and say the same thing everyone else has..... wahhhhhhhhhhhh...btw, I think it sounds just fine...waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh.

The shuffle does exactly what its meant to do, play music. My brother has one and I love to borrow it. I'm going to get one as a secondary mp3 player. When I am at work it is easier to keep a shuffle in my pocket than a nano. And I don't need my entire library on it, I can just put my current favorite songs, clip it on, and go. All this hullabaloo about no screen is ridiculous. Its not supposed to be that kind of mp3 player!

Okay that might be a little overstated but the fact is that this player is way overpriced for what its worth. I know people like this player because its small (cute?), light, and it is a clip-on with tactile control. I know what this player is used for. I for one have a similar player that have all these features and I use it for running/working out at the gym. I bought it 1 years ago, and you know what? It also cost me 80 dollars. If you think I'm bluffing then you can look up the player. It's the 1GB version of Samsung YP-F1. It has all the features of the shuffle (yes even a clip) and more (fm tuner, voice recording, screen, clock, fm record...etc). Also this player can also double as a usb thumb drive, which is what I'm partially using it for (1/2 music and 1/2 data files). I could not understand how you can justify spending 80 dollars on the shuffle. It has nothing special aside from the "snazzy" clip. But is a clip worth 80 dollars? other players have it too, have you looked at those? Probably not looking at the argument you're giving. When it comes down to the end it's clear that you're an apple fanboy that is upset about the low rating given by cnet. That is the only logical reason I can see for you to give this a 10/10.

It's nothing to write home about. It looks more like an accessory than an actual music player, which i guess goes both ways. Sound-wise and function-wise, there certainly are better. Your score is unjustified.

I don't WANT a screen that can get scratched when I'm running, biking, cleaning house or even mowing the lawn! I have my "pump it up" music on there, always a couple of audio books and I don't need to navigate it. Just start it where I want it to start and go! When I mow, I use noise cancelling headphones and the quality is still great! A 10 out of 10 design for my purposes.

My sentiments exactly. It depends on your usage. I already have a nano and a video ipod, but I wanted something smaller with no bells and whistles. I don't mind paying more for smaller. I'm putting the shuffle in my radio-controlled Black Pearl pirate ship and play the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack as it sails. Sounds dorky, but the 2nd gen shuffle is perfect for my application. I give it a 9.9 rating.

Just kidding, If I needed an 8gb Flash player I would seriously consider an Ipod nano, They are beautifully designed.
This is very elegant as well, just doesn't suit my needs.
If you don't like this product Apple will come out with a 3rd generation in a few months that has more capacity, and four different colors........ maybe a ......screen??

This shuffle is just what I needed. I don't need the screen. I went from Virginia to Tennessee and back for the holidays and I plugged my unit into my BMW....it was like have Satellite Radio. The only drawback is the docking station. Maybe an "Icondo" similar to the the "Ihome" can be invented.

For anyone who thinks that this guy was trying to create a decent review, you need to stop taking what this guy is taking.

I completely understand the point of some people preferring simplicity in their devices, but there are a lot more people who want value, too. For $80, it's a lot for Apple to charge for a 1GB player with no screen, when there are so many other players out there that give more for less. Giving this item an absolute 10 shows that this person has nothing but a complete bias towards Apple.

This guy is no more than an Apple Geek, and an Apple Geek is no more than a fanboy. And you should know fair a fanboyss review is.

Way to go tech 2005; I concur with you 100% The cry babies just don't get it! It's intended appliction & funtionality is all about the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!)theory. If you want a screen the and more functinality there are many other iPod's to suit that need.

If you loose or get this iPod stolen it not going to break your bank either. I would rather be sporting this version out in the public eye just for that reason. And yes it is perfect for working out and other situations when you just want to hear some of your favorite songs and not have to your whole library with you. I will be picking one up tomorrow.

Were tape players, and we had no way of skipping songs, no screen for browsing artists, and we got on ok! Now I know technology is moving forewards, but like the gent said, is there a need for a screen? and if there was a screen on there, you wouldnt be able to read it as its so tiny!! I personally think this is a great step by apple, for sure you could loose it, but you have the same chance of your mp3 player slipping out of your pocket (it happened to me!) becides if your really all that worried you could attach a key chain or somthing to it, may have to drill a small hole through the clip, but you wouldnt loose it!

The Creative Nano sounds at least as good (some say better), is just as cheap, has a screen, can be used as a recorder, is extremely easy to use, needs no software (simply drag & drop your files)and if you desire, simply shuffle through your songs like the Apple. Also it's as small as I want. The shuffle is too small unless you're 6 years old. It's not that the Shuffle is bad but that there are others, for the same cost or less, that are better. The Nano has one other big advantage. It uses cheap user replaceable Nimh AAA rechargeable batteries which last about 15-20 hours. Charge up 4 of these and take them with you on a trip. for 60-80 hours of use.
