"Fell short of promises"
Pros: As a first gen owner I can say the pros are that it still does what the first gen did.
Cons: Crashtastic. Also, Nike+ is crippled. It does not do half the things a nano with Nike+ can do and that's why I upgraded
Summary: I hate to be harsh, but I had the new iPod Touch for two days and crash 4 times. That's four times more than the first gen I previously owned. On top of that, the main reason I upgraded was for the Nike+ integration. That integration is half of what's available when you use the iPod Nano. I returned my Touch and ordered a Nano and Classic for less money.

Perhaps you put all of your applications for first generation onto this one? I don't think mine (2G) has ever crashed. When installing an app, if it's big like MooCowMusic's Band or Guitar, just do a soft reset. I also think the mircrophone support and volume rocker are nice touches. Using Fring, I can make VOIP calls now. Nano is better for sports, agree there. I could see the Nike integration bringing about more applications that are refined compared to the Nano - we'll need to watch and see. The whole idea here is that the Touch is a mobile computer, gaming device, media player, and now with Fring a communication device. I love mine!
