  • "A solid player for a solid price"
    on by tldizard

Pros 20 Gigabyte drive, standard iPod quality in song/album management. Long battery life.

Cons No protective case, no docking station, extremely easy to scratch surface

Summary While this is a very well designed and strangely unique iPod it is not without its drawbacks.

Bright LCD screen, "fall asleep while listening to music" feature and excellent sound quality make the U2 Edition iPod a stellar MP3 player that breaks away from the rest of Apple Computer's more effeminate and pastel designs. The U2 Edition is definitely an eye-catcher with a more masculine look and feel to it. Although sharp looking it does have issues with wear and tear upon the unit. The high-gloss plastic surface is greatly susceptible to fine and deep scratches and gouging from table surfaces and even rough hands or body oils. Within two weeks from my purchase, the glossy front of my U2 iPod now looks as if it were kicked across the pavement. Carrying cases for the 4th generation iPods often range between $29.99 and $49.99 and are an added cost that simply cannot be justified at such outrageous price.

The lack of a docking bay or carrying case and the extra $49 is an issue of concern – especially if you have no intention of buying the $400+ U2 digital boxed set. But despite these issues I enjoy my U2 edition to no end and highly recommend it if you are looking for an iPod but are turned off by pastels and pearl whites.

  • "Same old Ipod?"
    on

Pros Has same features as the original white Ipod. Great functionality, ease of use. Recommend regular Ipod. You can buy from apple with discount either as government employee, student or specific business. Price goes down to $269 with educational discount f

Cons If you don't have high speed USB 2.0, quite a few Windows based desk tops, tranfer of single album takes about 5 minutes from the CD and about 2 minutes to the ipod. Why is everyone on here claiming that there is a dock with this special version. Just g

  • "BODY, NOT PERFORMANCE, difference"
    on by AMDCam

    Pros different color

Cons doesn't look good, doesn't have any hardware features different than the 4th generation

Summary Why did Cnet benchmark this to the 4th generation? It is the exact same thing! Pop off the case and put on a different color to get an extra 3 megabytes per second and .6 hours less battery? Well if that's true, then you can count on me to repaint every electronic I own!

  • "It's good, but why waste the money on red and black coloring"
    on by Ipodaddict

Pros It is an Ipod. It has classic Ipod features, it's nearly perfect

Cons Your wasting like 50$ on red and black color, when there are really nice skins that you can order for 6 bucks

Summary I think it's great and it works, but why not buy a regular 20 gb, and an Ipod skin, check out Iskin.com

  • "Nice iPod, got it a while back so I am pissed."
    on by azra786

Pros I didn't use it in over 5 years, and it still works great!. Not that heavy, great clarity even compared to my itouch (my personal opinion, you may not think so). Decent couple of games. Different type of iPod, something I love about it.

Cons - I got it a week before they added the iPod color, still very pissed.
    - Sucks you can't add anymore game, certainly would be really nice of apple to add more games to the ones w/o color.

Summary I love this iPod because it's really nice and the color is sorta of an ipod original, don't make them like this anymore. I like that it still works even after half a decade, still trying to figure out how it was able to do so. Not that heavy, really nice quality for it. I love the sound quality, don't know why but I feel it's better than that of my iPhone and iPod touch. I really wish iPod would offer some sort of $50 rebate or something since I was screwed here because the color and video were released in a matter of weeks from when I bought this one.The clickwheel still functions great and I have had no problems using this iPod.
