"A solid player for a solid price"
Pros: 20 Gigabyte drive, standard iPod quality in song/album management. Long battery life.
Cons: No protective case, no docking station, extremely easy to scratch surface
Summary: While this is a very well designed and strangely unique iPod it is not without its drawbacks.
Bright LCD screen, "fall asleep while listening to music" feature and excellent sound quality make the U2 Edition iPod a stellar MP3 player that breaks away from the rest of Apple Computer's more effeminate and pastel designs. The U2 Edition is definitely an eye-catcher with a more masculine look and feel to it. Although sharp looking it does have issues with wear and tear upon the unit. The high-gloss plastic surface is greatly susceptible to fine and deep scratches and gouging from table surfaces and even rough hands or body oils. Within two weeks from my purchase, the glossy front of my U2 iPod now looks as if it were kicked across the pavement. Carrying cases for the 4th generation iPods often range between $29.99 and $49.99 and are an added cost that simply cannot be justified at such outrageous price.
The lack of a docking bay or carrying case and the extra $49 is an issue of concern ? especially if you have no intention of buying the $400+ U2 digital boxed set. But despite these issues I enjoy my U2 edition to no end and highly recommend it if you are looking for an iPod but are turned off by pastels and pearl whites.
