"This hard-drive based mp3 player is STILL the bomb" on by Mboloanio
Pros: Durability, durability, durability
Cons: Screen size, readability
Summary: I bought this guy back in 2002, traveled around Central Africa with it for three years, and it still plays great! Sure, it's a little heavier and bigger than an i-Pod, which I've bought more recently, but I still prefer the Jukebox menu and accessibility via PC (forget i-tunes!)

"Bulletproof - almost" on by piedpiper11
Pros: lots of capacity; relatively cheap, takes abuse
Cons: Archos stopped supporting it
Summary: Have had my Jukebox Recorder 20 for 2-3 years and have been very happy. I'm a marathon runner, and this thing has taken quite a beating over the years, and it keeps on playing. Sure the batteries wear out. But they're easy to replace with any 4 AA rechargeables from the electronics store. Many of the previous user comments complaining about battery life don't seem to realize this.
Last night, I was running a 12-miler; and tripped. I came crashing down on my left side, and right on top of the unit strapped to my left side. It never stopped playing, and I kept right on running, even though I later discovered I'd cracked a rib. Later in the run, when I went to change the album I discovered that, besides cracking my rib, I'd also cracked the LCD screen - it was dark and splotchy. So at the moment, the unit is useless as a portable, but it's still working just fine through the USB port. I'm currently shopping for a replacement; alas Archos isn't making or repairing them any more. -
"Second unit much much better" on by msbeetlejuce30533
Pros: It handles tons of music and is easy to use as far as downloading music
Cons: can't handle multiple formats
Summary: It was a good thing Archos replaced the first one or the review wouldn't be to good . I did find the customer service easy to deal with. But there are better MP3 players on the market now.

"a little bulky, but ideal for travel" on by Samifumi
Pros: great capacity, durable, supports drop and drag to and from computer.
Cons: heavy, 12 oz. bulky, original os not so good(see review)
Summary: Long before there was an Ipod, there was Archos. I purchased this unit almost 3 years ago for a trip overseas. not only for music, but also to upload photos from my camera, and to also carry large data files. I got it at Costco with a bundle pack that came with a car charger and cassette adapter. It was flawless with the exception of the os that was installed in the unit, it was sluggish and would laaaaaag at times while searching thru folders. this problem has been resolved with the software available from rockbox. it has many features and options that add to the ease of use. I was given a Sony 1gb md as a gift to use because I was told the JB20 was to big to carry. I tried to upload music once, saw all the requirements to convert the songs to the Sony format, and there sits the Sony MD. I just recently purchased a new car stereo that has Av in jacks so I can hardwire my player. I hope to be using this unit for many years to come. The size and weight are only issuse I have found with the unit, but I would not trade it for an Ipod with the same capcity.

"Great Player" on by MacGyver1970
Pros: USB 2.0, inline recording, XP friendly, upgradeable
Cons: heavy, small LCD, battery life, no car charger
Summary: Great player. I've had one for about 3 years now. It's been flawless. A great upgrade is going to the RockBox firmware upgrade. It makes the most of the player's abilities. It's not a sexy as the iPod, but it's tons less expensive.
