"A GODSEND!" on by Sirocco2
Pros: Tivo for the radio.
Cons: There's no downside to this baby.
Summary: This device isn?t really intended for those who want to carry their music archive around with them. This is primarily a timer-recording device, like a DVR. Tivo for radio, so to speak. You wouldn?t archive your digital movies on your DVR, likewise you wouldn?t archive your audio files on this.
But it?s more than that: the line-in input lets you record cassettes, LP?s, CD?s, internet radio, or satellite radio that?s hooked up to your regular stereo. I keep mine plugged into the headphone jack of my stereo system. One oversight of the review is that this baby records in stereo, unlike it?s precursor, the ?Radio Your Way?. Timer record is a godsend to those who use it ? this baby allows unattended recording of several weeks worth of the Howard Stern show! This is a miracle. The ?Radio Your Way? only has 512MB of built-in memory, and only takes a 1GB SD card, which allows for about 4 days of Stern at 96kbps. But the ?Witness? has 2 gig built-in, a vast improvement (and can take a 16 gig SD card ? WOW). But I don?t even use the built-in memory on mine to record, preferring the SD card, which transfers music faster to my computer.
In practice, built-in memory on this device is almost unnecessary, since transferring files from the SD card is faster and easier, and people who record radio shows (or LP or cassette) tend to use these audio files right away, rather than store them on the recording device. -
"Great Upgrade to the Pogo" on by darobin
Pros: Excellent build quality, logical software,
good reception, nice looks -- 2 GB internal
memory standardCons: Difficult battery replacement like IPOD
Summary: Those who knew and loved the Pogo Radio Your Way LX,
and those who still use it, such as myself, have been
rescued by the Asian manufacturer of the Witness, which
is being sold by CC Crane.
They have improved the build quality, and made it
easier to manipulate the buttons, while including
2 GB internal memory, to which one can add SDHC
memory.
That makes for a very nice combination and
hours and hours of recording capability. Add
to this the multiple auto record function that
has carried on from the old Pogo and you have one
powerful little unit.
The big drawback I can see so far is that
the Witness battery, while accessible, is
difficult to remove. You have to pry open
the case rather than just unscrew some
screws.
Hope they listen to user complaints
about this and modify the design in
the future. CC Crane has posted
full instructions on battery replacement
to their credit.
Also, the Witness requires a 24 pin
connector that is very difficult to
obtain -- although CC Crane says it
can be obtained on the Internet. -
"Finally I can listen to AM radio stations on MP3 player" on by midi73
Pros: I really like this so far. I have had it for a couple of days. Great reception. Easy to put songs on and external SD card (holds up to 16GB SD card. Set it to auto record radio programs or whatever you want.
Cons: Manual could be better. Hard to find stuff and lacks clarity in places.
Summary: Great product. If you like AM talk radio and have been really missing this feature this products for you.Be sure to fully charge battery before first use.

"Scheduled Recording of RADIO! CNET review missed it!!!" on by scifiwes
Pros: SCHEDULED recordings of radio (TIVO for the radio). Can add external memory, so you can record hundreds of radio shows!!!!
Cons: Expensive.
Summary: The main selling point of this device is that is the ONLY (at this time and time of the review) AM / FM Radio that you can schedule recordings. It is a tivo or DVR for the radio and your files get saved to memory internally or external memory you add. The review from CNET really missed on this review - it isn't so much that it is the on of the few mp3 players with am radio - ITS that you can schedule recordings!!!. I love to listen to Coast to Coast(but am sleeping when it is on) or Rush Limbaugh(Don't have time at work) and this device will allow me to setup scheduled recordings and then play back latter and fwd or rewind or pause as I like. You can also, move the files to a PC like a media center to play back that way. SO - if you ONLY want am radio - it is too expensive IMO - but if you want to SCHEDULE recordings on the Radio, this is your only choice at the moment.

"Finally an MP3 Player with AM radio" on by Faztang
Pros: AM Radio AM Radio AM Radio
Cons: way over priced
Summary: I don't have this player (I have a Zune) but I have been begging for an AM radio on an MP3 player for years now. I would way rather have this than an FM tuner. I mean who needs FM when you have all your tunes? AM on the other hand can give you sports, news, weather, and traffic. Now thats a complete package...Creative, Microsoft, and other vendors, its time to add AM radio!!
