"Pretty good deal"
Pros: GREAT sound, lots of bass, built in lithium ion battery, funky design
Cons: Battery not as long as I would like
Summary: I'm not an audio expert or anything of that sort. When I bought this flash mp3 player I was looking for: good sound quality, small size, light weight, and a not too big and not too small memory size. These are pretty simple needs.
And well, here in Korea, there's the 256MB red model, 512MB white or yellow model, and then the 1G black model. I got the 512MB yellow model, which is quite bright but funky looking with the racecar design. So, that's a plus.
And the sound really is clear and amazing. And you can tweak the equalizer and whether you want certain bass features on or off which, in addition, enhance the sound quality. So that's a second plus.
And the flash player really is small. It's about 7.5 cm long. And since it's got a built-in lithium ion battery, it's really light! My last flash player was iRiver iFP-899 which runs on an AA battery and it so much heavier in comparison. That's a third plus.
And so this flash player answered my needs.
On the downside, the joystick plus four outer button functions were a little harder to get used to. The menu's a typical tree-folder organization and so that's easy, but it's the maneuvering that took a little more time than expected. But once you adjust it's fine.
And it'd be nice if the battery was longer. I'm not sure how long it does last because I use a little bit each day for varied hours, and I think I last a week before charging via the USB plug styled adaptor. But one thing to note is that you have choices on how long the backlight screen should be-5 sec, 10 sec, 30 sec, 60 sec, 120 sec, or always on- and, of course, this choice also determines how long the battery will last. I keep mine on 5 sec because I don't really need to see the screen so urgently. I usually use it to listen when I'm on the bus to and from school or on the subway.
So sound quality wise, it's great, design is pretty cool, and the size is very small and light. But you should see if you can actually hold one and test it out before you buy it if you're really concerned.
