Lots of problems
Pros: Small design
Cons: Problems with hardware and software

Much more than expected.
Pros: Small size, Large features, Great sound, Nice software
Cons: Takes some time to learn
out of 125 user reviews
1+years, 1 problem, excellent purchase
Pros: storage, navigation, software, weight, look, features, battery life
Cons: accesories...
I live in L.A., and the radio quality is great. Tried the mic. recording feature and it works fine, you have to be careful not to speak to close to the mic, but that's about it. The quality of the recording is pretty good.
I have the 1gb model, enough for 150+ songs, about 10-12 hour playtime, and easy intuitive controls.
The player looks great, I dare say it looks like a tiny iphone...
Ok, now the bad things:
I had a problem last year with the player itself, something about the firmware... I tried fixing the problem myself, but soon found out I had no idea what i was doing. So, I mailed my iaudio to cowon customer support after completing an online summary of the problem. About 10 days later they sent it back, working perfectly. Problem solved.
The other thing i didn't like where the earphones..., but you can just buy a pair afterwards, so never mind that.
Overall I think this mp3 player would beat other players in the same price range easily. Did I say it has a clean and clear lcd screen? It might look small, but it works perfectly and gives all the info needed.
One last thing (no more I promise), one day i accidentally dropped my player as i was getting in my car and slammed the door on the poor thing... It survived, although with a huge bump (incredibly the thing didn't explode or brake into pieces!), and it still works like nothing happened.
So, in conclusion, if you've read all I had to say about the cowon iaudio u2, then BUY IT ALREADY!

Excellent!
Pros: easy to use, recording, sounds great
Cons: could use a plug-in/wall charger as a standard option

Pros: Sounds great, easy to use
Cons: Battery life could be better

This mp3 player is a lemon
Pros: Small, FM radio
Cons: Won't turn on, turns off without warning, horrible service
The thing has never worked for more than about an hour at a time. It consistently does not turn on, or turns off abruptly despite the fact the battery monitor says it is charged.
I've been trying to work with COWON's customer service department, and it's impossible. You cannot talk to a human being. After I put in a ticket, it took seven days to get an answer: install the new firmware. Great--that would be perfect if I could get the thing to turn on, which it won't. There was no way to reply to the e-mail. I have to put in another ticket.
I can't return this piece of junk to Amazon. They say it's Cowon's gig. I can't use the warranty I bought for 12 months either. Perhaps this is one out of 10,000 lemons, and the rest of the iAudio U2s are great. But I won't buy another thing from this company because of their horrible service.

Cowon USA technical support inexistant
Pros: Excellent sound, ease of use (USB drive)
Cons: Low memory capacity (1GB)
The new iAudio F2 (flash memory 2GB) is the newest model corresponding to the U2. It works well, is easy to use (even though some options are non-intuitive), it starts and stops very quickly (unlike some hard drive-based MP3 players), and the volume (max) is very high (30 mW per side). The batter life is very good (ca. 20h). The price was quite good, too (I got it when it was just released in the US): $120.
One drawback: Cowon USA customer/technical support is INEXISTANT. There is no way to contact anyone or send any questions as we must first register and be approved first. And this procedure (that might take several days) does not work at all. I have finally found a way to contact someone, who proposed to fix the problem but this did not work at all. For 2 weeks now I have pursued my efforts to get registered in order to have the possibility to ask a question (!) (I do not have any problem with my iAudio F2) without success. I cannot reply to the email address that Cowon uses to send me (occasionally) a response as it is an automatic address going nowhere.
To summarize:
- iAudio/Cowon MP3 players are great (at least the F2)
- Cowon USA (iAudio) customer/technical support is INEXISTANT.

Great for working out or inline skating
Pros: Loud, good sound, compact
Cons: Radio reception indoors, menu systems, song grouping
A few drawbacks, however. The songs cannot be grouped in playlists per se. They can be loaded in a specific order or can be arranged alphabetically when playing, neither of which was appealing to me, so I do quite a bit of clicking the nub to the right.
I'd buy another one of these, but this one has lasted a long time so far. I think I paid $175 new about a year ago...

Affordable, Ultra Durable, Great Value!!!
Pros: Great styling, Handy carrying case, great for the gym. Excellent voice-recording quality. Flash memory allows you to use it as a pen drive.
Cons: Does not include arm strap with carrying case. 1 GB is not a lot of music. . Does not support WPM

CNET got it right this time, though my rating is 9
Pros: size, quality of workmanship, quality of sound, ease of use, style
Cons: small disply, but it is not a "con" (since the device is very small) just a comment
The only thing I wish that CNET would have pointed out that it comes with carrying case. I did not know and ordered another one and now I got two of those.

Best Flash MP3 Player in its Category
Pros: Small yet tough, Good Design, Easy to Use, FM tuner, Battery Life, Plays everything
Cons: Earbuds maybe, not much else
At the time I had been looking for a flash MP3 player (that could take a beating) but had some battery life and an FM tuner as well as a good amount of space. This little player has fit the bill perfectly since day one and has been going strong since. I'm even still happy with just the 1GB of space though it's not really the latest and greatest anymore.
And even though I didn't buy it, the price--(like most MP3 players other than the iPod) has always been better than it's iPod competitor. The one place the iPods tend to do better is in design.
However I love the iAudio design, it's really easy to use--small, efficient--brightly lit LED. Even came with a little protective case and neck rope you put it in.
The only drawbacks I've seen in my 12 month+ usage has been the earbuds--they're just typical earbuds really.

Pros: solid construction

Forget about trying to use the jetShell software or trying to upgrade the firmware. Also, technical support is snotty and useless.

Like to gamble?
Pros: Nice paperwieght.
Cons: Expensive for a paperwieght.
"That's OK," I tell myself. "Every manufacturer makes a defective product or two once in awhile." So, I return it to my retailer for a replacement. It's a popular item, it seems, as they are sold out. But I'm patient and am told that they have ordered more and will replace it ASAP.
Cowon takes 3 weeks to supply the shop with just a fraction of their order. Luckily, I get my replacement. Unluckily, an exact duplicate of the previous scenario occurs when I open the package and try to charge/switch on the U2: no power, no display, Windows doesn't recognise. Useless.
Cowon obviously has serious quality control problems that they are either incapable or unwilling to correct. And from what I've read, their customer service is also terrible. It's a shame because I'd really like to at least try one of their products that actually works.
Looks like I'll be splurging for a Nano after all.

best of the best
Pros: It has the best sound quality on the market and one of the easiest interfaces that I have seen. When you add in all of its extras, line-in, FM and more you just can't beet it.
Cons: It dose not come with a wall charger so you have to buy one. Also the voice recorder is only good for 3 feet away.

Firmware Upgrade Death killing many U2s
Pros: Up until it's untimely death, innumerable
Cons: Poor software engineering
http://www.jetaudio.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9
- about dead players. Sadly, mine was among them. While this machine was everything I wanted in a player - size, capacity, ease of use - its early demise negates all of that. This is not the only model suffering from Firmware Upgrade Death, as can be seen in the forums and by doing a search on the model of your choice.
My case: I went to perform a firmware upgrade, following the surprisingly difficult procedures -
http://eng.iaudio.com/zeroboard/zboard.php?id=C08&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&bmenu=download&category=9&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&bmenu=download&desc=asc&no=214&bmenu=download
- to the letter. After the upgrade, the unit will not start, will not be recognized by the computer, nothing, nada, zip. To date, there has been no respose from Cowon on whether the affected machines will ever be able to reboot, short of sending them in for repair or trade.
My rating is based on a product of 10, software engineering of 1.
Cowon has a great product here, but it seems they want to go out of business quickly by killing their customer's machines.

Top notch MP3 player!
Pros: Robust, easy to use with Windows XP; excellent sound
Cons: Radio sensitivity marginal
out of 125 user reviews
"Rival's the iRiver T30"
Pros: Has 'the works'; it plays ASF, MP3, WAV, WMA, MPEG 1 Audio, MPEG 2 Audio, MPEG 2.5 Audio; voice recording, line in, FM radio, compact
Cons: Uses lithium polymer built in battery (personal preference), sound quality not as good as other MP3 players I have tried but still quite good
It is very versatile, it has many functions and unlike many MP3 players is firmware upgradeable. It also comes with a neck strap and headphones. The FM radio signal is very strong and you can tune in to your favourite radio stations using this MP3 player.
It is though, a tad bulky in my opinion and it uses a lithium polymer battery that is built in. Although, this is again my personal preference, I prefer an MP3 player that doesn't have a built in battery so you don't have to constantly worry when it will run out.
All in all, this is definetly an MP3 player you will want to look at if you are considering to buy a compact flash player.

Firmware is unstable, menu is not intuitive, customer support is iff-y
Pros: it's good when it works like it is supposed to
Cons: firmware seems to be unstable. Lost bookmarks and play lists and had to reinstall firmware at least 3 times
But the biggest problem is that it is not stable. Problem 1: the unit would not stay off. It kept rebooting. Resolution - reinstall firmware. Problem 2: It lost settings including bookmark, playlists and play mode. Resolution - reinstall firmware.
The customer support is on-again-off-again. Several times they responded immediately and were right on. Other times, I never got an answer and had to keep writing.

A quality MP3 player
Pros: Battery, Navigation, Sound, Size, Mic
Cons: might crash after few months use - but new firmware fixes this!!
I just wanted something that is good at playing audio that supported more than just mp3 (ogg/wma!! etc), can enhance it and have good bass settings which go well with good headphones!! with a good battery life(at least 10 hours use), and light as matchstick box.
I got the iAudio2 512mb version and it supports a wide range of codecs(firmware upgrades) and has a mic - which has suprised me quite a bit as i used it at conferences etc and it was pretty clear. FM radio is an ok addition but i don't use it much. Also a LineIN for recording from cd to player. In terms of navigation... i can control it with my eyes shut.
My only advise is upgrade to latest firmware. It kills a few bugs, it just makes device quicker to navigate.
Have a look at it, because 1gb prices are falling as we speak.

Pros: Small, Very nice sound
Cons: Manual is confusing, Software is horrible, and expensive for something that doesn't work right

Great playback and voice recording quality for such a little package
Pros: Audio rendering is excellent, voice recording quality a pleasant surprise, decent navigation once you get used to it
Cons: Shaky FM reception, but who really buys for that. Supplied ear buds typically unpleasant.

Pros: sounds great when it works
Cons: No support. Cannot contact company.

Good, but disappointing
Pros: Small, lots of features
Cons: no playlist support, poor battery, bad tag support
They seem to have left out the most important features though. I assumed it had playlist support because of its endless list of features, NOT SO. you have to click on each song and click on it and select to add it to list. Basically you can only make "dynamic playlists" using the mp3 player itself. So to make a 100 list song all from different folders would be the biggest pain in the world with this player. I would not buy this if I did it again.

Beautiful design, excellent sound, feature-packed.
Pros: Small size, long battery life, large storage, great sound, many features
Cons: Long boot-time, only holds 53 folders, EQ/volume settings difficult to work sometimes
Cowon's website is easy to navigate and lists current firmware for my U2 and any new versions of the JetAudio software. I don't use JetAudio (iTunes works fine) but I have created my own personalized boot-up moving logo with JetLogo, which is another nice touch. Windows XP quickly recognizes the U2 as a removable storage drive when plugged into a USB port, and files (any files) can easily be transferred or reorganized through Windows Explorer. You can't delete folders or move songs while not connected to a computer (the U2 interface only deletes one song at time), so you have to organize/manage everything in Windows before you remove the USB connection. The U2 won't play when plugged into an actual computer USB port (it only charges and acts like a removable disk drive when there's a digital signal present), but it will charge and play at the same time when attached to a Cowon or third-party 5 volt USB power adapter. (Zip-Linq makes a great AC/DC one for $10... Just use the U2's included USB "A" to 5-pin cord, and you've instantly got a home/car charger!) The simple design with push-button stick and rec and play buttons was a little strange to get used to at first, but after learning how to navigate the settings menu and song list, operating the U2 is a snap. The controls are customizable to a certain extent, so you can change how your U2 responds to the buttons to better suit your needs.
The one major draw-back I have found was the player's limitation of 53 total folders on the drive (that includes the handful of "system" folders the U2 creates by default). So you can organize the songs in your U2 into folders and sub-folders (just like iTunes' folders), so long as the total number of folders doesn't exceed 53. Once that happens, some folders with will randomly give errors like "NO FILE," when there actually are files present. I wish something in the literature had mentioned the 53 folder limit, 'cause I was a little scared the thing was malfunctioning until I did my own research and found a message board describing the folders limitation. Some smaller problems I have... the EQ settings can't be changed quickly, so when I move the U2 from earbuds to my car stereo, the extra bass feature (which sounds great in the earbuds) peaks my speakers and it takes some amount of menu navigation to get the sound right - a flat-response "line-out" jack would have been nice. Also, when you're navigating the song list or settings menu there's no way to change the volume. This is a problem if you're navigating with the control stick and a file that was encoded at a really high level starts to play 'cause you can't quickly change the volume or even pause/mute the song. If your ears are splitting, all you can do is yank out the headphone cord. Finally - and this is really minor - the U2 takes nearly 30 seconds to boot-up, which I think gets shorter if you remove the animated logo, but that's still a little long for my taste. My wishlist from Cowon on the U2 (they actually have a firmware wishlist section on their website) is more than one "dynamic playlist" to create more lists of my favorite songs. There's no AAC or M4A support either, so watch out with your iTunes AAC/M4A encoded songs - they won't play or show-up in the U2 while in play mode, but they will transfer over in Windows and take up storage space.
Overall, the iAudio U2 2gb model is great. It has a small, sleek design with easy navigation, long battery life, great sound quality and lots of handy features. It is the main competitor to the iPod Nano, and a worthy one at that. I use it all the time with earbuds, my car/home stereo and with a JBL On Tour battery-powered speaker set, and I couldn't be happier.

My workout companion - wherever I go!
Pros: Unobtrusive, well-designed, great audio quality
Cons: Doesn't play lossless formats, record button close to play button; menus not well laid-out
Initially, I was surprised by how small the U2 is. Yes, I know the dimensions are available all over the internet, but I just couldn't believe it was as small as the pictures suggested. The unit is also user-friendly for basic functions. Without reading the manual, I was able to drag and drop songs into the player in Windows Explorer. I also like the JetShell software that comes with the player. Once the songs were loaded into the player I simply pushed the play button, and I was rocking.
Sound quality: exceptional for a tiny player. For reference, my wife calls me an audiophile (which I vehemently deny) but I must admit to having carefully built a two-channel audio system over the last five years that costs more than my car did new. I demand exceptional sound quality, and the U2 delivers. No, it isn't on par with a true hi-fi home system, but sounds phenomenal by portable standards, such that I don't find myself distracted by poor sound quality even when I'm just listening to the player and not working out. The OEM headphones don't stay in my ears very well, but for the sort time they do they sound good.
The only "complaints" -which is too strong a word- I have is the paranoia this unit causes me by having the record button next to and level with the play button with no space between them; the initial menu choices don't readily show you how to get to other advanced menus you may want (had to study the manual for this); and the unit doesn't play lossless media, of which some other players are capable. (I should mention here I use the WMA9 format with this player, and am still happy with the sound quality, as I mentioned above.) The only other complaint might be the quaint two-tone display, but if you're using the player for audio only (and especially if you use it for working out) the display doesn't matter. The U2's display is nice and bright when backlit, and everything is very legible.
I use this player in the gym, on the roads, on the trails in the mountains- everywhere. I couldn't ask for a better workout companion.

Sweet Little Light Package
Pros: Small and featured packed, great accessories
Cons: Doesn't work well WalMart Downloads/ WMP 10's Sync, Folder Limit
Walmart/ WMP 10 issues:
Please note, I used Cnet's service finder and made sure this product would work with Wal-Mart [which uses WMP 10] before buying. And wanted to let people know about the issues I encountered. I buy most of my songs off of Wal-Mart's Music Download Store. Which have usage restrictions. When trying to sync [using WMP 10] some songs that I bought, I ran into some problems. I first tried syncing with WMP default options. Which creates a separate folder for each artist and this maxed out my folders [max 50]thus I wasn't able to play any songs. Finding the Sync options in WMP and un-clicking create folder hierarchy solved this problem. I then created a new folder to store all the songs I had bought from wal-mart, kept it highlighted, and clicked sync. The files moved to the player but not to any certain folder. To solve this I had to go into the drive from my computer and manually move the files to the folder.
The player is great and works well transferring files by drag&drop. Even including my issues with WMP [not the players fault], I would recommend this player to anyone!

Wonderful Device!
Pros: GREAT sound, intuitive controls, great price
Cons: Peripheral support lacking
In addition, the capabiities (radio, radio and voice recording, LCD viewer, etc. make this a win-win situation. If only COWON would begin making all the cool peripheral devices to partner with this incredible device, it would be perfect. By itself, it DOES deserve a perfect score!

Doesn't work out of the box, driver installation malfunction
Pros: cute design
Cons: won't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I tried to install the hardware, I get a message about a "stums.sys" file that I need to direct the wizard to. I locate it on the CD manually under the Win98 folder and still get a "problem with installation" prompt at the end of the download.
I tried everything posted: installing firmware, downloading the driver.
Calling customer service was a joke, no email response. I'm terribly disappointed and will never purchase from Cowon again.
I'm going to return this product in the next two days if nothing happens with this thread.

Cool device. Very hip. Easy to use the basic operation...
Pros: It's cool. It's hip, and if you are not electronically capable like me, you will find this little device easy to use (at least the basic operations). It has a FM radio and voice recorder
Cons: The User Guide provides little help on how to utilitze the more advanced options. It's not compatible with a lot of the new "TO GO" downloads. The radio doesn't seem to catch the stations too well.

50 folders maximum is serious limitation.
Pros: Cnet already did good job on the pros.
Cons: Can only view/access 50 folders.
I own both the U2 and the G3. The G3 does everything that the U2 does, without the 50 folder limitation. Also, I think it's better to get 30-50 hours on 1 AA battery for the G3 and not be wedded to USB or wall adapter charging of the U2. However, the U2 is definitely the way to go if you need the tiny size. But, seriously, CNET screwed up on their review of the G3. The G3 is a perfect device from a design standpoint, and should be rated higher than the U2.

Great! I love this thing.
Pros: Mounts as USB drive, FM radio, easy to use
Cons: Can only program to record FM radio 24 hours in advance
I use the FM radio quite a bit and program it to wake up and record my favorite shows. The only disadvantage is that it has no concept of day of week (in the timer section) and so I cannot have it programmed to always record the same time slot every week.
The other problem with it is when it is plugged into the USB (to charge) it cannot be turned on to listen to music. So far the battery life has been plenty long for all day so I just plug it into the computer at night. It would be nice to be able to listen while it is charging.

As good as they say it is
Pros: Great product. Light, easy to use, intuitive design
Cons: Could do with just a little more power
The device was extremely easy to use. I did not even have to read the user manual.
I wish at max volume or close to it, the sound had a little more punch to it. But then again, look at the size of this thing. Perhaps I am expecting way too much.
Overall, its a great product.

Great quality, but only 650 songs, 50 folders
Pros: Great design, easy to use, great sound quality
Cons: Can crash computer, bump up against limitations on odd occasions, tech support unreachable.
Durable at the gym, good radio reception, the whole works. I generally recommend it, and being flash-based, it suits me better than iPod stuff.
However, I got a rude shock when suddenly it started saying "NO FILE." Turns out that there's a max of 650 files and 50 folders/subfolders, so if you subdivide your music by artist and album, you can hit the folder max fast. I don't know if the new 2Gb model will have the same limitations, which makes me hesitant to buy it.
It actually crashed my computer when on some of the additional USB ports, but not the 2 factory ports it came with! I didn't try switching it to "slow charge" mode, which is recommended to decreased the amperage used on unstable systems, but it might help others with the same problem. I figured this out on my own; tech support never got back to me.
Also, it would have been nice for the armband to be included, and the earbuds are low quality and drop out of my (presumably funny-shaped) ear. Still, I generally love this thing, and you can't beat the price.

Scary bad product
Pros: Attractive design
Cons: Support non-existent; user guide doesn't help much
The songs were in the memory -- I checked My Computer -- but somehow the device didn't show them.
I wonder whether I got a defective device, but it seems unlikely.
Other people have said good things about the tech support, but every time I called, the only response I got was "voicemail unavailable".
The User Guide does not give any instruction about downloading mp3 files, and the JetShell DVD has no user guide.

One of the best things I ever bought
Pros: Miniscule; sounds great; easy to navigate; great battery life; great FM reception; charges quite quickly through USB connection; included carry case with neck strap; voice recorder
Cons: no A/C adapter; no AM radio; 1GB may not be enough for music junkies; can't use it while it charges unless you buy A/C adapter; only plays MP3 and WMA

Outstanding functionability and usability
Pros: Works perfectly with Linux, acts as a mass storage device, great size prefect for sport (running, cycling ,etc.), Decent battery life. Plays multiple formats including ogg. Just plain awesome!
Cons: Screen is small but so is the player. Interfaces takes some getting used to.

Excellent tiny little mp3 player
Pros: Excellent crisp sound quality, TINY, easy menu navigation, very simple to use, drag & drop music uploading, great features (fm tuner, voice recorder, etc)
Cons: Doesn't play wma dmr, playlists??, headphones aren't that great
I wish it had playlists, I still haven't figured out how to organize music the way I want (haven't had time....yes, I know it has been 6 months).

I love this thing!
Pros: Great sound, size, weight, clean and ever easy to use.
Cons: Not the greatest battery life.
Does everything you need in a mp3 player and it's size and weight is prefect. Sound is great! (well of course you need to get better headphones then what comes with.) The menu's are easy to navigate. USB 2.0 easy to get music on and off fast and easy. It can also double up as a UBS drive if need be.
The battery life is bit low. It's 6 hours normally. But I found out if I just set the charge speed to slow it give it another 8 hours life. The big thing is a Fast is 2 hours to fully charge it and slow is 6 hours... The way you charge it is just plugging it in to your USB port and letting just sit there.
I love this thing. I wear it around my neck everywhere I go and listen to music wherever and whenever.
I don't know what to do with it when I work out sometimes now. My belt loop for the case broke. iAudio needs to make a case for it then it great.

It's a quality machine
Pros: Fantastic sound
Cons: Takes 30 seconds to start
Any gripes. It is possible that a MP3 player can be too small? I think so. So I've subtracted a point for that and given it nine out of 10. And I don't think it's as sexy as the nano. Apart from that, I think this is a quality product if you like your sounds to sound good.

Disappointed.
Pros: Small, great sound, cool looks, joystick
Cons: TERRIBLE interface, TERRIBLE owner's manual
But for someone who's not gadget savvy this little monster is a NIGHTMARE! It's not plug and play and to top it off the owner's manual tells you nothing about ripping files, converting them, or how to make playlists. I figured it out after hours of trial-and-error but only because I'm obsessive -- but I strongly recommend you buy somethng more user friendly because this has lots of room for improvement.

Great little mp3 player for working out.
Pros: Small, light, has FM radio, lots of features, no software required.
Cons: No belt clip or arm band.
That said, this is a wonderful little device and I couldn't be happier. It's tiny. It's light. It's made of plastic but seems very sturdy and well put together. The sound quality is excellent. It requires NO software-- just plug it into a USB port and transfer your files. The LCD screen is easy to read and the controls, while not as simple to figure out as the iPod, are still pretty easy once you get the hang of them.
I haven't used the voice recorder yet, but it's nice to know that it's there in case I need it.
My only real complaint with this device is that it doesn't come with a belt clip or an armband, which seems really dumb. Fortunately, Cowon sells an armband on it's web site. I just ordered one today.

Pros: no skip, good battery life, great sound and reliability
Cons: needs better headphones and an arm strap
The only caveats are that to exercise with it you need better earphones, as the buds can pop out, and I wish iAudio sold an armband for it.
I have no reservations about submitting this device as the best MP3 player for exercising with. Heck, I'm going to buy another for my wife to work out with.

Small form MP3 with excellent performance!
Pros: Great sound quality, stylish package, drag&drop music transfer, easy to navigate, FM recording, line-in recording
Cons: FM reception needs improvement
I have my MP3 now and have been playing with it for a week. I was able to confirm that this item is indeed an excellent MP3 player. At first I had a hard time with the controls but later on I got used to it. The only thing is I find the FM reception not very good. Iam only able to get very few clear radio stations. But I cannot complain because it does not have an antenna. As long as it can receive my favorite radio station Im happy... besides I mostly use it to play MP3 music.
One of my drawbacks in buying this MP3 is the short battery life and that it has to be charged via USB. I charged it for 2 hrs when I bought the unit and have not have the need to recharge it yet. Ive been using it for 4 days with average of 6 hrs playback everyday. With that, im content.

Stylish with an amazing range of features
Pros: - Ergonomic, excellent sound, lightweight and stylish, durable, FM radio + mp3 recording
Cons: - included software, track transition (nitpicks)
I was impressed by how simple it is to navigate menus, playlists, and song directories. The design is beautiful, very sturdy, and small enough to fit in your jeans' change pocket. The joystick is well-built and makes a satisfying click when you move it. The backlight is bright, with nice contrast, and the screen holds unbelievable tons of information for a flash player. The FM radio gets flawless reception, considering the thing has no antenna, and the built one-click mp3 recording makes it easy to grab songs from the radio.
It also comes with a nice range of accessories. I would never have expected to get all this stuff for $160.
The only bad news is that the included software looks like something from 1995, but it's completely uneccessary anyway -- it's so easy to navigate this thing, software is redundant. Also, track transitions are not seemless, so when songs blend together there is a split-second gap, but this is very hard to correct with flash player hardware. And there is a chance Cowon will upgrade the firmware to fix this at some point in the future.

Shouldn't be editors choice
Pros: size, capacity
Cons: battery life
The iRiver IFP-899 (which is what the U2's design appears to be based on) is a 1G player which comes in many other capacities.
The differences:
40 hour battery life on a single AA
FM Tuner has a timer option for recording
Sleep mode
Voice recorder
Line in recorder
More playback modes, such as for audio books, A+B loop, 3 programmable play lists and more
EQ settings galore plus a user based and 2 3D sound

Excellent MP3 player for its size and class
Pros: Compact, high functionality, charges battery quickly
Cons: WMA files not supported, need headphone upgrade, only 1GB
The FM radio works great and the voice recorder is surprisingly effective for the ultra-compact size of the player.
The best feature of this player is that you don't have download or install some company's software to upload your MP3 files. The software for file transfer is drag and drop style and the interface is one of the most user-friendly and functional designs I've worked with. Little things like a very fast preview track feature before you upload and cut-and-paste erase/copy make file transfer very smooth and easy. Also, adding a folder entitled "Ramones" or "Janacek" and then dropping your respective MP3s into these folders is simple and push button.
If you've heavy-handed the controls can be a bit of a problem at first, but, for me, it's much easier than the Apple wheel or any other toggle switches I've used.
You need to purchase the AC adapter separately, but this is no big deal since it's only $10 and you can easily charge the player through the USB connection on your computer.
Although I wish it was slightly larger in file holding size--say 3-5GB--this is an excellent MP3 player/FM radio/Recorder and a great product.

Researched for 1 month for the best flash based player
Pros: small, very versitle, easy to use, and good quality
Cons: one or two minor software glitches (though upgradable thru firmware download)
Anyway, when I went to make my purchase for the iaudio U@, I discovered they made it in a 2GB version, and that sealed the deal. Though I did encounter a glitch when I shut down the computer with my player still attached, I managed to correct the problem myself.
I'm extremely happy with the purchase of my iaudio, and all my Ipod owning friends a quite impressed as well.

Fantastic Player!
Pros: Style, build quality, ease of use, size, sound quality and overall functionality
Cons: None found yet
Sound: Several EQ settings to choose from along with great sound enhancements such as BBE, Mach3bass, MP Enhance, etc.
Size: small and light yet very sturdy feeling
The U2 is very eay to use in terms of navigation. It's equally easy transferring files. No special programs required, Windows Explorer is all you need. It does however, come with Jetshell if you wish to use that for file transfer.
Of course there are several other functions such as in-line recording, voice recording and FM that I have yet to get into. My main purpose for buying was MP3 playing and everything else is a bonus.
Nice fitting carrying case and neckstrap make going out with this such a breeze.

A great, compact music player!
Pros: Size, sound quality, drag and drop file copy, supports most file formats
Cons: The case really needs an armband!
I use Windows Media Player to rip songs from CDs and keep my music organized in folders by artist and album on my PC. To move music to the player, all I have to do is drag and drop folders, which makes loading music very easy! Some players, such as iRiver, require you to use their software to load the player. Other players require all the music tracks to be in a single folder on the player. Not so with the iAudio U2! Just plug it into a Windows 2000 or higher PC, and it shows up as a removable drive. Drag, drop, and go!
The one real gripe I've got is that the case doesn't come with an arm band or a belt clip. Part of the reason I chose a flash player was to use it while running, cycling, etc. The case does have a loop that would allow you to use a belt (who runs while wearing a belt??), but no clip, and no armband. Is this too much to ask?
One other thing - go to the iAudio website and download the PDF manual. There are many advanced features of the player that aren't explained in the manual that comes in the box.

Extremely happy with well researched purchace
Pros: Tiny, easy to use, light weight, great display, great sound
Cons: Batterylife maybe, lack of easy to obtain accessories, tape adapter issues
Of course I checked Cnet (great unbiased reviews and video) and the user opinions but none really helped with the decision (that's why I'm writting my own hoping to help someone).
Both of the players feature MP3 capability, a FM tuner you can record MP3s or WAVs from, and a built in microphone to record voice. The iAudio U2 also has a line in recording ability I personally have not used and don't remember if the MuVo Micro has one but either way this will only be important to a few people. The FM tuner is okay as it recieves all strong signals but it will cut out before a real radio or car tuner, it also doesn't make the static sound for channels that aren't there but a slightly wierder sound (fans of listening to static should not get this). The microphone is good enought that on the max volume I could record one of my 100 person classes from the midrow away from the professor. Also on the lowest setting for voice recording you can fit days on this little player and the low quality for voice is all you really need. It actually saved me on one of my projects cause I recorded a class on this little device.
The controls for the iAudio are quick to learn and easy to use. I don't even use the hold switch anymore since the buttons are not even accidentially pressed when in my jacket or pocket. The screen is easy to read and fits a good deal of information on it.
The thing to realize that effects both this player and the MuVo and I assume all other players that have a similar set of features is you only have one storage location. If you want to record the radio or voice you cannot fill the player with music as that is the storage you use to record to. I just felt it needed to be clearly said as no one really just says it plainly.
The other problem specific to this player is that its accessories are hard to get as there is only one source for those. I got the player at another online vendor becuase it was cheaper than on Cowon's site and the arm band is an additional $7 but shipping is $10 which is a little ridiculous. The other thing is while I have not tested the battery life it is most definately less than the 20 hours the web site says. I don't know if it is close to the 15 horus that Cnet says you should get but I don't have to many problems as it charges quickly and comes with a long USB cord or a very convienent key ring USB plug. Thats another thing that needs to be said plainly: The iAudio U2 does not have a removable battery. It is internal and rechargeable. You can actually see the voltage in one of the menus (top is around 4.12 V and it dies aroudn 3.50 I think).
There was a new firmware update only two days ago (5/30/05) which fixes the other problem I'd bring up but don't need to anymore. I know how important it is to do research before you buy a player and I even looked at and considered the physical dimentions of the two players when buying mine. I'll be 100% honest and tell you had I gotten the MuVo I would probably be just as happy with it as this player but I have never used one so that is just a specualtion. In the trend of honesty, you will most likely be very happy with this specific player or one with similar features. They are great and do it all.
I won't be buying a new MP3 player for a long time or until the new iPod which plays everything under the sun and has a tiny lens that projects an HD image and takes pictures and video comes out and is smaller than my iAudio (i.e. maybe 5 - 10 years).

Very Happy!
Pros: Lightweight, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Charger is not included
CNET was right in their review. This unit is lightweight, easy to store songs with direct USB connection, and looks darn cool.
The only thing I can say negatively is that I wish the U2 came with the electric charger included. I had to order that separately after I realized it was not included.
I would recommend this unit.

Great until it broke the next day and took me a month to return
Pros: well since it literally broke probably the second day that i started using it, i didnt have many pros
Cons: the program used to transfer my files was INCREDIBLY confusing, the controls were not intuitive at all and were just confusing, the company's practically impossible to contact, and it broke.
Then when I called the company, they were impossible to get in touch with, and their idiot workers asked the most ridiculous questions and couldn't help me at all. So basically I was almost late returning it, and I had the product for two days when it broke on me.
I just wanted a simple flash drive player that could hold enough songs for a long amount of time. I read all of the reviews and thought I'd get a good one and never suspected I'd get a dud, but I obviously did. So if you want to take your chances good luck but I'm incredibly disappointed and mad and plan on never doing business with JetAudio ever again.

Pros: Great for running! Small & Light, Sturdy, Feature Rich, Excellent Sound Quality, Dynamic Playlists, Plays Protected WMA, Smaller and better design than IRiver!
Cons: IAudio 5, G3, and M5 Models coming with better features and new chipsets in November/December. In general IAudio lacks accessories - car charger? Rechargeable battery - it's a PRO and a CON, 15 hours of life isn't bad but not great. FM Radio works okay...

An incredible rip-off of Iriver flash players
Pros: Seems like a good feature set
Cons: This is a blatant rip-off in design and colors from existing Iriver products, how lame. How about something original from the iAudio guys?

The COOLEST Flash Player
Pros: To name a few: Compact design, cool colors, loaded features, battery life, user-friendly, awesome sound quality, USB support.
Cons: It might be cool to have a clip on the player, so you can easily clip onto bags/purses.
