Pros sound quality, battery life, color screen, video, supported file types, look, price, many other features
Cons no ID3 tag sorting, ont available in stores
-Excellent Sound-Plentiful Features
-supported file formats (OGG, FLAC, etc.)
-BBE and equalizer
-FM Radio (with recording)
-Voice and Line-In Recording
-Video playback and picture viewer (on a nice color screen)
-Amazing battery life (I have the X5L, which the the version with the larger battery life, it is supposed to last up to 35 hours, I have yet to see the battery drop below 50%)
-Looks Nice, feels solid
-Simple Controls, easy to navigate menus
-Can be used as a USB Mass Storage Device
-Reasonable Price (especially when considering how many features it has and compared to the iPod, Why would you even consider an iPod now?)
-Lack of ID3 music mangement (shows ID3 tags when playing song, but cannot sort by tags to view a single artist, album, etc like other mp3 players do. But this may be addressed in future firmware updates, and you can always organize your music the way you want it on the computer before then transfer it to the X5 and it will remain that way)
-Not sold in stores (only available on Amazon.com, direct from the manufacturer, and a few other internet sites. This may change in the future, but for now it is a minor inconvenience of not being able to physical see before you buy, and if there were ever any problems it would take longer to ship it back and wait for repair than to just take it into the local Best Buy).
Other notes about the X5:
-some people don't like the subpack (this is a little attachment that plugs into the X5, it is for audio in/out USB, and AC adaptor), but I do. It gives the X5 a cleaner look and as long as your careful like I am it will not get lost.
-While it does play video, you have to realize that it is an mp3 player, and that the video is just a neat feature. If you are planning to watch a lot of video, I would recommend spending an extra $100 or 2 and getting a portable media player (Cowon is actually coming out with one "soon" which should be very good, called the A2). The video quality and screen is decent, but for heavy viewing purposes the screen is a bit small.
Bottom Line: If you want a top quality hardrive mp3 player for a reasonable price, that happens to have a color screen, play video, support various file types, and has many more options than the ipod and other players, then consider the Cowon iAudio X5(L). I did. I read all of these reviews before choosing the X5, and I am very satified with my decision.

Pros Build quality, look, style, ease of use, quality of sound, loaded with features, beautiful color screen, battery life, easy to use joysitck
Cons Joystick is small and clicks a bit loudly, needs mini adapter to charge or line in, no id3 sorting
Summary I've owned/used many hard drive mp3 players and this is by far my favorite one. There are a few cons as listed above but the pros more than outweigh the cons in the case of this player. If you're looking for a great mp3 player with great sound, battery life, and features don't look any further. Buy this thing!
Pros Long battery life no matter what setting, VERY scratch resistant, Nice effects and equalizers, AMAZING sound quality. Drag and Drop, Line-in recording, radio recording, mic recording. OTG capabilaties
Cons Lags on Vids and Movies espescialy. When forwarding on a vid or movie lags. Control is fault prone save up for a remote, When skipping song to another song usually takes a while, like a sec or two.
Summary This Player is UNBELIVABLE! First of all The packaging it came in is very top notch, Makes a very good first impression. When you get it it comes in half batt so you have to charge it right away, and the charging LED indicator is nice. Tells you when its done charging, red for charging green for done. After Charging update to the newest Firmware.
In the package comes a yellow card for the warranty, 2 stick on screen protectors, very handy, usb cable, line in cable, Manual, Jetaudio cd program, On The Go(OTG) cable(more on that later) and Very Crappy stock earphones, but the players' effects make even STOCK earphones sound good, and the Iaudio X5L obviously.
External: Looks good smaller than I thought it would be. VERY scratch resistant and the screen too. put it in my pocket with keys and only a very very hardly noticable white dot. Feels very strudy in my hand.
Now the Iaudio X5L is a great choice for people who don't want to join to ipod hype. What this player dosent match up in looks makes up for its incredible audio capabilaties.
-BBE, sound effects that provide the clearest music.
-Mach 3 Bass, An Incredible bass booster that enhances super low bass sounds.
-MP Enhance, an effect that compensates for lost parts of digital sound.
-3D sound, explains for itself.
Digital sound level goes to 40 which is bangin' loud. that rounds it up on the audio part.
The interface is nice, depends on personal taste. no id3 tagging but I don't want that I prefere organizing my own files and the tree filing is what I want.
Video, well this player is FIRST audio second Video player. LCD is 15fps but good enough. iriviter is a great conversion program just set the settings on 12 fps and it's all smooooooth. LCD isint that good quality but I can live with it just the video playback is like adding alittle more salt to fries. but takes awhile to load videos and movies but a second or 2 dun matter to me. just a nice thing to have when you're bored one math class.
Controls: Takes a while to get used to like 30 min. The joystick is fault prone so remote is very useful. I have fidgety fingers so I tend to double click and move the song back or whatever, just shows its very very sensitive.
Features the cream of the crop.
pros: Zoom, good quality can be used as wallpaper.
cons: can't slide show or look while listening to music.
pros: VERY VERY good even on radio, depends if you have a good signal. mic recoding blows me away for an internal mic it's very good. line in is very good I record songs from my friends ipod to rub it in haha.
pros: nice to have.
cons: annoying talks inbetween songs.
-Drag and Drop.
all pro no con.
-OTG on the go.
Pros: Hook up camera and send pics to mp3.
Cons: Depends on what model camera you have.
(more updates later)
Pros Supports many formats, great mic & radio recording, good battery life, BEST SOUND I'VE EVER HEARD
Cons small screen
Summary I've owned an iPod (3rd gen), and gone through 2 RCA Lyra 2780s, and now my X5. This has the best sound quality I've heard and I'm EXTREMELY picky about music!
If you're intent on watching videos on your X5 you might be a little disappointed. While it has good video playback, it supports a lower framerate and it has a smaller screen. But it is perfect for shows like cartoons or music videos.
I love that it can support multiple formats. I had never thought I would use them, but the FLAC format is great because for those cd's that you REALLY love, you get to keep the cd quality with it. And ogg sounds better than mp3's at lower bitrates with the same file size.
I listen to radio a lot and i auto-record from it when the top ten requested songs for the day come on at night. And the mic works great when recording a concert or a lecture.
This is the best player by far, even when I compared it to my friends new iPod Video! Obviously I highly reccomend it!!
Pros Good sound quality, the ability to zoom and pan through pics
Cons Horrid visual quality, weak Fm reception, low integrity earphones, fragile inner workings
Summary This player is absolute crap!! It doesn't even deserve to be on the market! Everything broke on me. The earphones have have great quailty sound, but if you have the bass and volume too high they will blow on you! Now the left earphone crackles when the volume is turned above 20/40! That happened to me due to the carelessness of a friend. Also, the screen is an ABSOLUTE JOKE! I've never seen worse video quality on an MP3 player in all of my life! Some videos are so pixelated that you can barely see them (namely the music video Rodeo from Juvenile). Now the FM radio. The FM radio gets horrible reception, even in a moving car! A moving car!!! Their is only one room in my entire house that gets somewhat good reception and that's my bedroom! About the fragile inner workings, I dropped the X5L on the ground a couple times accidentally, and soon after the Line-in audio recording didn't work. The only things that work now is the picture viewer and the music still plays.
The worst part of the matter is, I couldn't get it fixed. So now I'm stuck with it! Ohh well, I just recently lost it, and I might hit it with a rock (that is if I decide to find it again lol)!
