"Creative has to be one of the WORST companies around"

by qanuk on April 26, 2005

    Pros: Size, Sound

Cons: Lack of being accessed by most software

Summary: This is the 2nd MP3 player that I have owned by creative, and it will absolutely be the last. The first was the Nomad II MG, which incidentally has been updated to be current with most of the programs out there! Problem with it was it?s lack of internal memory and the fact that the screen died approx. 13 months after purchase.

    Anyway?

Creative has a particular way of making most of the accessories for the product line "proprietary" only. I needed to replace the sync cable on this unit, and found out that the cable could only be purchased from Creative. The problem is that Creative informed me that they did not have any replacements.

There are several issues with the unit despite the lack of accessories though. In my opinion the most disappointing one is that there is almost no program out there that will recognize the player, and hence allow the access of any features. It is near impossible to load songs in a manner in which you like - by all programs.

Yes, there is a FM tuner; which is worth nothing at all ? you can?t get stations in clearly unless they come in ?mono? and even that is limited. There is a voice recorder, which is so poor you?ll end up using a regular tape recorder anyway. Creative definitely had the ability to use USB 2 when they put this player on the market, yet they decided to keep you waiting for ?sync? via use of USB 1.1! Go figure that one!

Overall the only good thing about the player is it size, or at least it was when I initially purchased it. Since that time, which by the way was just about a year ago (at a price of $200 - you can now purchase it right off of Creative for $79) there are many players that are much smaller and compatible with most programs. Oh, it does have a good sound as well.

I highly suggest staying away from this product let alone Creative products altogether. Definitely read a few of the ?negative? reviews about creative products in general before making your final decision on your next MP3 player!
