"Beautiful screen. great features, low price."
Pros: Compressed videos look fantastic. Sound quality is exceptional. Great deals to be found right now, as newer players are released (Sept. 08).
Cons: Square "play" button can be confusing to operate without looking at the player...nothing on the button to distinguish one egde from the others.
Summary: If you have even of modicum of online shopping savvy, you can score a great deal right now on this exceptional player. Creative continues the rollout of their "X-fi" and "Mozaic" models, so, right now (September '08), there's not much of a push for this line. I'm not convniced that the enhanced sound of "X-fi" is worth the extra money...don't get caught up in the "gotta-have-it" hype of the latest and greatest players out there. This model--the Creative Zen--is a workhorse (like I do) for daily podcast downloading. Be sure to buy a screen protector, though...when I first used mine, I was hyper-conscious about keeping the screen scratch and smudge-free, which wasn't easy to do. There are silicon protectors out there that are made exclusively for the Zen (I have a really good one that I'm not allowed to mention in this post) that will protect the screen just fine. Since I added a skin, I throw it in my pocket, throw it on my car seat and use it like it was meant to be. There are programs that let you capture popular online videos, too. After converting, they look great, as do videos of every description. I really like this unit--it's worked without fail since I bought it four months ago.
