"Part miraculous; part annoying"
Pros: Small, good capacity, great screen, great sound
Cons: Touch pad annoyances
Summary: Beautiful, small, elegant, sounds fine, good navigation, and I was holding out for 8 GBs so as to hold my full music library.
Pros are, it's fine for what it does -- portable music with a pretty screen.
- It works with, at least, MusicMatch, Win Media Player, and Yahoo Music, including subscription music.
*** as of now (Nov 2005) for Yahoo, you need to update the firmware from Creative website to Microphoto 1.20 (Not firmware for Zen Micro).
Cons:
- appears not to work yet with Audible.com
- The touchpad controls, though elegant looking, can be maddening. e.g., the Scoll pad and Select-button pad are integrated. So guess what? It's difficult to scroll a list
without unitentionally selecting something. Who could have foreseen such a thing.
Also, sometimes a button-press doesn't "take"...with a touch pad you don't get the tactile confirmation.
- Not being an iPod, the accessories are limited. Also with no port at the bottom, you don't have the option of setting it into a cradle device without cords sticking out the top. (Just an esthetic issue)
- The earphone jack is in a recessed area at the top. As a result, doesn't work well with Bluetooth transmitters with a flat bottom, the module will jut out too far.
