"I love this player!"on by derski
Pros Great sound, feature rich, Easy to read screen
Cons Recharge and USB cable all in one
Summary If you are looking for a great sounding MP3 player that will hold a huge music library, this is a fantastic player for you. I don't care about carrying photos or anything else. I just want to hear nice, clear, accurate music and that is what you get with the Sleek. The feature set on this player is very good also. One more thing - the battery life is very good! Highly recommended.
Pros Sound quality, ease of player use, sturdy, fm radio, touch pad
Cons Software, some skipping, lack of accessories
Summary I have had my Zen Sleek for about 3 months now and for the most part I love it. Its sturdy (I have dropped it a few times now and it hardly shows it), the sound quality is good (I don't like earbuds so I use a different pair of headphones), great storage capacity, the device is user-friendly and the inclusion of a radio is great, all for less than the Ipod! However the software stinks. I use Windows Media Player to organize my music and playlists because the Creative product was a pain. Also have had some issues with synching the player to my PC where the music files get duplicated- what a pain! And transferring files from the player back to a PC isn't as easy as hoped since clicking Synch doesn't seem to do it. Otherwise, once you do get the music loaded onto the player, its a great device!
Pros Easy to use, and does well what it's supposed to do.
Cons The Hard Disk can have some defect with few time of use.
Pros It worked at one time
Cons User unfriendly, customer support stinks
Summary I bought this because I didn't want to get sucked up in the Ipod mania. But I obviously had to compromise. I was able to get started, but the longer I used this thing the more difficult it became. I donwnloaded most of my cd collection but it got harder and harder to do so as it became more full. Now when I connect the USB, the computer recognizes the connection but the software does not. And trying to get any kind of on-line support from Creative media is even worse. It would be less frustrating if they didn't have any customer support at all.
If CM came up with a cure for cancer I would skip it.
"Decent Player"on by Desitine
Pros Good sound quality, Simple to use/navigate, very sturdy, FM Radio, Easy to read screen, bright backlight, good battery life, does not dent easily, voice recording capability, 'sleek' design
Cons Software crappy, some minor skipping, Dust gets caught behind screen, lack of accessories. Recharge and USB cable all in one, Pure MP3, No Color, Corrupt MP3s huge problem, non-removable battery,
Summary I've had my Zen for about a year, maybe more and I think overall, it is a decent player, but far from perfect with it's many pros and cons.
Let's start with the Pros.
The Zen Sleek has a nice crisp sound, compared to other MP3 players I have heard. Get yourself a decent pair of earbuds and your set.
Navigating on this MP3 player is very simple and fast. With the buttons you can get to any menu fast, and it is not a hassle to get back to the previous. Something I like is while listening to a song you can open a drop-down list which lets you do actions such as Remove, Look up Artist, View Details, Add to playlist, ect. with the push of a button. Very organized player.
The Zen Sleek is a very durable MP3 player. It is made of Aluminum and it does not dent easily at all, which is a great plus. If you take care of it, you'll have a beautiful player for a long time. The buttons are smooth and do not 'stick out', and they seem to be durable enough to not break. The touchpad, in my opinion is very nice and easy to use. You can change the sensitivity also, if you wish. Nothing sticks out on the player and it is very smooth with a stylish design and colors. Has a lock slider at the top to disable all buttons while in your pocket. Overall a very sturdy player.
The MP3 player does not have a color screen, but you don't need color when all you have is MP3s.. do you? Very easy to read text with a backlight that turns off after a few seconds.
Good design, very durable, screen is easy to read, navigation is simple and if you organize your files it will be an incredibly organized player.
Now, the dreaded cons.
I really do not have complaints here, but some people seem to complain about the quality.. All I can say is maybe you have crappy earbuds? Also, the songs tend to skip once and a while but not often enough for it to make me not want to use it.
I can’t think of any problems here to be honest. Very organized if you don’t randomly throw things in.
There is one thing that really, really bugged me. After about 3 weeks of using this player dust got behind the screen. It’s not a lot at all, but it gets annoying. You can’t get it out and you have to send the player in to get it cleaned if you really want it gone. I’ve heard some complaints about buttons breaking.. All I can say is you don’t have to ram your fingers into it like a madman. I’ll admit my Play/Pause button is a TINY bit wobbly, but the others are all firm. The touch pad is pure white and will stain if you touch it with dirty fingers. Overall small things, but they are annoying.
The cables the Zen Sleek comes with are a NIGHTMARE. The double-cable idea is so horrible. The player can’t be used while charging because at the same time it’s docked and it’s just a pain in the ass. If you like pictures, movies, ect. On your MP3 player, stop reading now. The Zen Sleek is MP3 only. Another problem I had was with the software. In general all MP3 software sucks.. so nothing new here. Now, here is the most annoying problem you’ll come across. I have 3,475 songs on my Zen. When I first got the Zen, I had ONE corrupted file. This rendered the MP3 player useless and it was completely dysfunctional (screwy battery life, sound, ect). I had to go through them all and find each bad song and remove it which was a pain in the ass.
The Zen is a durable MP3 player with enough room to store about 3500-4000 songs easily. It has good sound quality and battery life while the menus and navigation are easy to use. Along with several other features this MP3 player offers it is in my opinion just 'decent'. It has many cons but they can be avoided by generally being organized in the long run.
A year ago, yes. Now, no. I ordered a Microsoft Zune yesterday night and hope to get it within the next 2 days or so.
