What I Love about My Zen

Pros: I use my Zen and OverDrive media for downloading audiobooks from the public library. It holds 10-12 and supports 10 different bookmarks. When I turn it off, it saves my place. I keep a paperclip for resets, and my gym key in the clip-on holder.

Cons: It needs rebooting from time to time, but that's very easy to do. I bought the$30 charger one from the website, and it works fine. And don't drop it in water. It can't be recusitated, but is very inexpenive to replace when that happens.

Review: I have my Zen for audiobooks, and I have a 30 gig iPod which contains my whole music library. My iPod doesn't permit downloading free audio books from the public library. Checking out books on CD and uploading to the iPod also doesn't work. Lots of files go missing and the ones that don't, don't stay in order. My iPod tends to stay plugged into the permanent speakers in the Kitchen, whereas my Zen is always on my hip for when I find the time to listen to a little bit of the lastest mystery I've downloaded. I plan to buy another one when Creative Labs replenishes their supply. That one I'll use for music and for some Spanish Language programs. It also makes a great, inexpensive gift. Just be sure and buy the $30 charger when you buy your first one. I LOVE MY ZEN!

Do not buy this thing!!!!

Pros: It worked great, until the battery died.

Cons: After about 14 months, the battery died. They don't tell you that once the battery dies, the whole unit is dead because you can not replace it! All your data is gone forever!

Review: Who care how well the device works. Once the battery in it dies it is a worthless plastic thing that doesn't do anything! When the battery dies (for me, 14 months, just after the warranty is up), they tell you to buy another one from them to continue the "Creative Experience." What a joke. Don't buy it.

it sucks because it doesn't work on a mac

Pros: great price but sucks because i spend 1000 dollars on a mac and can't use my mp3 player

Cons: Won't work on a mac if it did it would be the greatest

Review: love the thing but can't use it now

Great for audio books!

Pros: It has bookmark capabilities, most units don't.

Cons: Stock ear phones weren't great.

Review: I wanted a unit for audio books. I bought a popular unit and took it on vacation and found that there was no way to save your place. I use netlibrary.com through my local library where you can download books for free. The challenge is the books are one long file, if you lose your place it is a real pain.

I took the first unit back, did more research and found the Zen V Plus with 2 GB (plenty of space for audio books and a some music). I also bought the 2 year service warranty because of some reviews having problems with the joy stick. I've had my Zen for just over a year and have had no problems. It locked up once, I reset it and it rebooted with all data still stored.

I also went toE-bay and bought a package that include home and car chargers and a skin and armband. All have worked well.

I strongly recommend this unit for anyone that wants to listen to audio books.

I love my Zen. I've had it over a month now. The software is included, but you can use windows explorer to load it.
Music, Videos, storage, Date Book, calander, Alarm Clock, Voice Recorder, and an FM Radio!
It does way more than they advertise.

It works with Windows, Yahoo Music, Audible Books and more.
Right now I'm downloading videos from YouTube!

I have never had to use the reset button.
Right now there are hundreds of songs stored on mine, I lost count at 250!
All high quality audio.

Now the bad news. It is a little slow to start up.
Go ahead and buy the (expensive) charger from the manufacturer.
I have found nothing else that works.

The screen it VERY bright in the dark, but still hard to see in sunlight.

Most files will have to be converted. I've found free software for that.
( www.Downloads.com ) YouTube Grabber, YouTube FLV to AVI Suite.

This has been a good product for me. A Great buy!

Love This Thing!!!!

Pros: Bookmarks for Podcasts!

Cons: Some minor software glitches and only usb for charging

Review: I love this thing! I have a long commute and I listen to mp3 books and podcasts. Before I had to listen to each one sepeately before I could start the next because it could take 15 min to scroll through a 10hr book to find your place agian. With the Zen I just bookmark it and listen to something else for awhile. It hold 10 bookmarks (more than enough for me). It's easy to use, clear easy to read sreen and has made my commute a whole lot nicer!

Tons of features, but not the important ones

Pros: great sound, good interface software, lots and lots of features, lots and lots of bells and whistles, amazing price

Cons: You can not navigate easily, no bookmarking, voice recorder is lacking

Review: I wanted an upgrade from my iPod Nano. I was impressed with the reviews and got the Creative Zen V plus and was amazed with the audio compared to the iPod. I also loved the radio, the video (you can't expect much from a 1 inch video screen), and the other features. The line in recorder was really cool.

Unfortunately, the voice recorder is only good in quiet situations and useless outside/ in a crowd/ or with any other noise. The mic will overmodulate easily. With more and more noise the mic doesn't make adjustments-- it just increases volume input till it is just a crackly hiss.

If you listen to music, this mp3 player is perfect. If you listen to podcasts, you will be frustrated with the lack of bookmarking, and the poor descriptions of what is in your menu.

The navigation through the Zen V plus is muddy and a bit confusing at times.

Overall-- if you want to listen to your music and the radio and an occasional rock video-- then this is a perfect tool. However, it falls shorts in every other respect. It is horrible for podcast listening.

Excellent product, great user interface! Shame about the lack of charger though.

Pros: Small, lightweight design, attractive, attractive and easy to use interface, good battery life, quick and easy drag-and-drop method.

Cons: No charger included, black model prone to showing fingerprints,

Review: I recently got the Zen Vision Plus to replace my old Creative Zen Nano, and it is, overall, an excellent product. It has a smooth feel, attractive colour accents, and the joystick-style navigation button was easy to use. The user interface is simple, very similar to that of the Ipod Nano, and you can change the orientation of the screen or the colour, and even set your pictures as a background! The sound quality was very good, and it was quite easy to organise the files via my computer, due to the drag-and-drop system. Coated in an extremely durable plastic, it feels good to hold and resists scratches exceptionally well. The only minor gripe I have with this player is the fact that the package is not equipped with a battery charger that can be connected to the mains plug socket: the player can only be charged through the USB port on a computer, making it a little inconvenient to charge at times when you have no access to a PC. In conclusion, though, this is a gorgeously ergonomic and attractive mp3, packed with great additional features, and I would definitely recommend it.

average at best

Pros: compact, ok graphics

Cons: cheap joystick, locks up all the time

Review: Not real happy with my Zen. Built very cheap, and battery life is about half as advertised. Locks up all the time. Cannot see screen in sunlight. Wish I would have returned before 2 week deadline.

Best £80 i ever spent! (4G version)

Pros: Easy drag and drop, extra features, video playback, intuitive use rinterface, personalisable

Cons: round coloured button can be difficult to use, but can use toggle stick instead.

Review: It's so nice to have something that just works...exactly how you want it to.

I got the player yesterday and withing an hour of getting it home i had filled it with music, videos, pictures, contacts and diary dates. I'd customised the menus and display options and explained to my whole family why it was the best thing i've ever bought.

The drag and drop is really simple and you can edit the track details really easily - rather than having to do it through a media player before transferring.
I find the screen is fine if you want to watch an episode or two or your favourite show and it supports all the file formats I've thrown at it.
its got some really great features that they don't mention as well, such as converting your music to all fit and it's own address book/calendar - i read several reviews that said you need to use outlook at i was slightly disheartened but fortunately, they were wrong.
everything makes so much sense and you can personalise it a lot - for instance you can name it and set your pictures as a background .

awesome look and feel but not so easy to use at first

Pros: looks, feel, tons of features, bright screen

Cons: ear-bud quality, practically useless if you own Windows98 S.E.

Review: I am a low-tech mom who bought this MP3 player for her teenage son`s birthday. He`s loved it enough to plow through the many frustrations. The lack of XP on our computer has created many hurdles for him. Top on my list is the skimpy information booklet which refers you to the set-up CD for everything. No XP - no set up CD access! He`s been savy enough to figure some of it out on his own and has used the line in feature into our computer tower with decent results when downloading songs. It would have been nice if a power charger had been included since our USB port is too slow to be of any use. And for the low to no-techs out there who are first time buyers, minimum system requirements should be clearly written in big letters on the front of the box! It would spare people some disappointments. But in the end, the Zen V Plus is a very appealing product and my son loves it! I just need to buy a newer computer to experience all of its charm and features...

Terrific little mp3 player!

Pros: Great sound, easy to navigate

Cons: wma default format, mp3 converter costs extra

Review: I have a 4 gig unit, black. I upgraded to Sony earbuds, with a broad freq range. WOW! This thing sounds great! It's easy to navigate, easy to import playlists, has a great, clear display. The battery life is outstanding. With the extra features, not found on IPODS, like FM radio, and live recording you can't go wrong.
My only beef, and it's minor, is that the zen software does not include an mp3 ripper. The player DOES play mp3's, the software does not create them. You have to use Media Player, or a 3rd party, or pay Creative $10 for an mp3 ripper download. Otherwise, my score would be a 10!

Great Sound and Great Price

Pros: FM Tuner, Voice Recorder, excellent sound, can hold 2,000 Songs, long battery life

Cons: None that me or my wife have found

Review: I bought this MP3 player for my wife and she loves it, she can jam to her favortite radio station or with her MP3's at work with the potable speakers I bought her as well, you can download music to it easily using media player 10, just hit sync to device and you are ready to go! and you can beat the price for it either.

Great product, poor controls

Pros: Large capacity, small, durable case, nice design (other than the joystick), great features.

Cons: Tiny cheap joystick...feels lose after just a few uses

Review: This seems like a great alternative to the nano. It has better features, but like the cnet editor says, the joystick feels terrible.

User Rating: 10/10

OMG GREAT PRODUCT

Pros: EVERYTHING the price the features just great and every way better then the nano ipods are def. OVER RATED!!!! i kno cause i owned one.

Cons: there are none

Review: love this product i use to sell ipods and creatives and once people started buying the creatives they were really impressed and the zen V plus is really nice cheaper than the nano does more than you cant go wrong!!!

User Rating: 4/10

great sound very poor battery life

Pros: great sound

Cons: very poor battery life, bad file management

Review: Wow what a great audio, very nice colourful display, strange file management, not always picking up the mp3 file tags correctly, battery life 9 hours max, no where near the companies stated 15 hours, and this was without playing any video

User Rating: 9/10

An awsome upgrade for my personal listening

Pros: Small, lightweight, intuitive interface, gets lots of looks

Cons: hard to see in sunlight, firmware must be upgraded before it will stop locking up

Review: All in all i have to say its a great player the only complaint i had was when i first got it i did lock up alot, however after downloading the latest firmware i have not had a single problem. two weeks of heavy use and no lockups. plus the really surprising thing was that wma at 64 k sounded just as good as 128k mp3s

User Rating: 5/10

Cute but flawed, seriously flawed

Pros: small, nice color combos, bright screen etc...

Cons: Not dockable!!

Review: For me any good MP3 player has to first start with a dock and I have no idea why Creative didn't add this in to the Zen V/plus. I would be nice to have this dock to my pc for syncing or dock to my stereo for listening while using a remote. Not to mention the economics of the whole accessory line. I can't understand after all this time why Creative, and others, still don't get it.
