"I have the Zen V Plus 4GB and love and now replacing it with the 8GB." on by jw6573
Pros: Great size, great sound. Menus are easy to navigate.
Cons: Ear buds that come with it are not that great. You will need to buy a better pair.
Summary: I have the Zen V Plus 4GB and have loved it. I am only replacing it because my basset puppy decided it was also good to chew on! I did a lot of research before selecting the Zen and it ended up on the top of my list and has not dissappointed me. The only quirk that I have found is that if I have audio books and music on the player at the same time and select to shuffle the music, I get chapters of my books randomly along with the music. My husband bought an iPod nano and it does not compare to the ease of use of my Zen. You will not be dissapointed -- just count on buying a new set of earbuds.

"Don't update the firmware" on by knumbnut
Pros: Don't know of any, player doesn't work
Cons: Creative's firmware update tool destroys the unit
Summary: I bought the 8gb ZEN V for my wife for Christmas. Installed all the software including the firmware update on the Creative site. The firmware update put the unit in endless "recovery" mode. After hours of attempts to recover it, including many worthless calls to Creative support they had me return the unit for repair. It is now over a month after Christmas, my wife has never listened to a single song, and Creative can't find a status of the unit. Google "ZEN firmware update problem" and you will find hundreds of posts from users with this problem.

"real good for the techy thats not insanely rich" on by gmanfeld
Pros: really adorable, the curves feel nice, really good computer transfer interface
Cons: don't bother if you have large or clumsy hands. freezes from time to time
Summary: If you don't have $300 to waste on an ipod that'll be one-uped in 5 monthes, this or the iriver clix2 is the mp3 for you.
I've had the iriver u10 (the original version of the clix) and the creative zen v plus (4GB, black and blue)
Although i've only owned these two i have had friends with the:
Microsoft Zune
Ipod Touch
Ipod video
Ipod video nano
Creative vision M
iriver clix2
Sandisk Sansa View
Personally, i don't like ipods because as soon as you get one, everyone else has one and then its just boring form there. You want something thats new that people will ask about. Definitly i got A LOT of quesitons about my iriver U10, since it looked so futuristic, even though it was 2 years old!
And that is the novelty of lesser known mp3's. however the u10 was all messed up, it refused to delete the names of artists even when their music was nonexistent on my mp3.
which is when i got the Creative Zen Plus in dec. 2006 (for christmas)I would have liked the Zune, but it was too bulky, i needed something i could put in my pocket on the bus. I can't stand people looking at my mp3 on the bus, especially something expensive like the zune. So zen was genericaly perfect. It has pictures, video, not really for movies, but i put short youtube videos on it (comes w/ software for video conversion) great soundquality with the right headphones. DO NOT use the headphones that come with it. They hurt after wearing them for 20 minutes and don't show what the Zen is made of. The screen is very bright and attractive, i love fooling around with the backgrounds they give you, they look very nice and polished. Plus, its VERY customizable, you can change the main menu around for the way you want it (you can just have the 'artist' button thing in the main menu instead of having to click 'music' then 'artist' or anything else you like, and you can remove things from the menu) You can also change the theme (color themes) and if you have a picture that you want as a background, you can change it to a monotone picture of the same color as your theme. (right now my theme is blue, and i changed my regular color picture to a monotone blue picture to match my theme and set it as the background)It has recording too, but i never use that.
It comes with software to transfer files onto it, but i perfer just using Windows Media Player, its a lot easier, just drag and drop and click sync. No problems so far with transfering, which is where my U10 completly failed me.
The only bad things are that if you have big or clumsy hands, it will be really hard to use the little joystick. You don't have to have tiny hands though, i have average sized hands and i can use it just fine. Also, at really random times it'll freeze. This happened a lot more when i first got it, like once a month, but not i don't think mine as frozen since...July and it is now Jan. 08 but don't worry if it does. Just put a small pin in the reset button and you'll be fine. But i think they fixed this probablem in the new 8GB version, because my sister got that one and her's has never frozen.
I've believe i've explained everything great about his mp3. I've played around with other mp3 players that are better(zune), mainly more expensive ones, but if you need a small, lightwieght mp3 mainly just for music, but you like lots of extras than this one is great. I mainly use it for music, but if you're like me, and you like a little flare, and something that looks great and fun to play around with when your bored, then this one is perfect. (or the iriver clix...that one is really cool too. but i own this one so i'm gonna root for the zen. 'Go zen!') -
