"Finally I can replace my old MP3 player"
Pros: 30GB, Size, Color screen, Interface
Cons: Price, lack of accessories
Summary: I have been waiting to replace my Rio Karma for a while. I have had creative, Rio, iPod and Archos players.
I don't like the iPod interface. I don't need it dumbed down for me and want to see what is going to play next, etc.
I have been waiting for something good to come out, but have been disappointed with everything I've seen. Mostly, the interfaces suck. I like the Creative interface. This also has a nice form-factor. It is not as thin as the new iPod 30GB, but it still will easily fit in your pocket. It may even be more comfortable to hold (I found the Nano hard to hold).
I would have prefered dropping the FM and recording if it would make the device a little thinner, but oh well.
The one negative to non-iPod is you cannot get the accessories. I don't need anything fancy, but it is nice to get a decent case and a remote. I donn't need or want a dock with speakers as I think that is silly (I have a stero that plays mp3s at home).
I am a little surprised as to why Creative thinks they can charge $50 more than the 30GB iPod. My guess is these will be discounted or drop to that level fast.Updated
Let my start by saying I have had at least 6 hard drive based music players (including 2 iPods). This player overall has a great interface, nice features, and a pretty good size. My take:
Pros:
-Great color screen (better than iPods)
-Easy to navigate music
-Nice fit and finsih-feels like a quality product
-Can view music queue (unlike iPod which is why I won't use one)
Cons:
-Battery non-user replaceable
-Size. It is good, but compared to the iPod, it is thicker. I would forego the radio if the thing could be made thinner
-Buttons. I am not crazy about the buttons. They are not independent of each other, but work fine.
-Navigating irks:
1) doesn't default to Alpha search when browsing media- you have to press a button first to scroll the alphabet. An option to make this the default would be nice.
2) shows albums under an artist by default. I prefer to just view tracks. You can do this by selecting an option each time. Would be nice to default it.
3) Can't re-save a playlist. In other words, if you play a playlist and want to add a song, you can't. You have to give the playlist a new name.
