"Not an I pod.... But"
Pros: Amazing screen, campatibility with all major online music stores
Cons: Styling is not quite there... But it makes up for it in what it does!!!
Summary: Having used several Ipods including a 5th generation 80gb... I can say this is a great alternitive.. And it has a lot of built in features that are extra on the IPod, like a FM tuner.. I have "Yahoo Music to go" and now have access to over 2 milion songs for FREE!!!! Sure beats I tunes 99c a song. And if I really want to buy a song its only 79c.. The controlls take a little geting use to, but after a day or so you get the hang of it. If your just buying a IPot to be cool your realy missing out on an amazing player

What you say is true, Personally the "not-quite-there" look doesn't bother me, but with that said I think it looks really good and I found it doesn't quite scratch as easy as the 30GB and 60GB models of iPod. I really love it's features too, like the FM Tuner (comes in handy) and the Voice recorder, not to forget the stunning display, so vibrant my eyes wouldn't know the difference between my 32" LCD TV if I were watching a movie in the dark, lol.. I've had an iPod in which a very bad experience, It wouldn't stop giving me issues, when Apple fixed one issue it had another etc, and most the time apple had to excuse themselves by saying it was my fault (Some sort of Apple practice)
All in All the Zen is definatly a GREAT iPod contender and as you said whoever buys the iPod just for the "cool" are absolute small brained apes
