"Happy with my DJ, especially for usage with Rhapsody To-Go" on by cmclatcher
Pros: Form factor, solid construction, price
Cons: Some initial challenges with syncing Rhapsody, but those were resolved quickly, battery life seems a bit weak
Summary: As a longtime (3 yrs) Rhapsody subscriber, I was excited when they recently began offering the "Rhapsody To Go" service, allowing offline usage of their 1M+ song catalog. At that point, it was just a matter of selecting a compatible device from their list. I chose the Dell DJ30 on the recommendation of a friend (who had recently sold his iPod on eBay so he could buy a DJ). I looked at a few of the other Rhapsody To-Go compatible devices, but found Dell's price point to be hard to beat. My deal involved a 2 year extended warranty, sport carrying case w/armband, shipping/tax for under $300.
The initial couple of days with the DJ were frustrating. I knew I was asking a lot of the device, as I was interfacing with a relatively new (< 3 mos.) service offering from Rhapsody. After two initial problems with synchronization (it froze up and had to be hard-booted, plus there were a few error messages after synching that required a re-sync), it has been performing like a champ and I've had no problems at all.
When I was having issues, I made two calls to Dell support, both of which resolved my issues and got me back to business quickly. I had to reboot the device and reinstall the firmware - both of which took less than 5 minutes total. Since then, I have synchronized over 3000 songs from Rhapsody and can now take my content offline with ease.
I have used/seen iPods and won't argue with their "cool" factor. However, I am extremely pleased with the DJ and don't feel that I am missing out on anything. Also, instead of paying $.99 per track on iTunes, with Rhapsody To Go and my new DJ, I pay $14.95/month and have access to more music than I could ever possibly listen to. Nice!!! -
"i've only had it a week but so far so good" on by starsinmybelly
Pros: durable, cost-effective, extremely easy to use
Cons: package arrived sans users manual, earbuds are uncomfortable/have inferior sound quality, what's the point of including a calendar if you can't make appointments
Summary: so it's not the mp3 player the all cool kids are carrying. i'm okay with that and am quite content with the dj30 thus far. plus, it was in my price range which makes it all that much better.
i am a little annoyed my bundle arrived without a user manual but i figured it would be easier to get hands on with my new toy rather than waste hours of my time with dell's customer service. it didn't take long before the dj30 and i were in business.
ripping cds and transferring the files from the harddrive onto the mp3 player didn't take long at all. i've used musicmatch in the past and while it's not my favorite, it gets the job done. tagging and organizing files is easy enough. i have had some issues with musicmatch freezing while docking but it's a minor annoyance (hah can you tell i'm a longtime windows user?) and am hoping re-installing the program will fix this.
upgrading the headphones is a must. -
"Slim on Features, Great on Value" on by nelsondr66
Pros: Large storage space
Cons: Could use better earphones
Summary: While the Dell DJ30 doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, I don't really need them. I didn't buy a MP3 player to listen to a radio, instead I now use Napster To Go to discover new music. That was my primary reason to go with the DJ30. I like the fact that I can download a ton of different artists and listen to them when I want to, not when a radio station decides I get to hear them (never mind the fact I listen to stuff that normally doesn't make it onto the radio). I also like that I can create a playlist on the fly.

"Definately worth the price!!!" on by Rush702112
Pros: Ease of use, comes with leather case and docking station
Cons: No user manual, lack of quality headphones.
Summary: I have had the dell DJ 30 for 2 months now and I can honestly say that this decision to buy it over an IPOD was a GREAT decision. Besides being cheaper, its easier to use then a IPOD, and i like MusicMatch over ITUNES. its easier to put the music on the mp3 player. I agree with most people that the headphones aren't good but thats a good compromise i am willing to take. With the shipment of the docking station, it makes it easier to charge the battery and transfer my music...so far I am extremely happy with the dell.

"does everything the ipod does for less money" on by bigt13
Pros: easy to use, dj30 comes with docking station and leather case
Cons: head phones a little flimsy, tracks must be tagged correctly
Summary: if you don't need to have the word ipod connected to your player this is the one to buy.
