"A review from someone who's actually used one." on by jkienlen

Pros: Size, Easy to Use, Not an IPOD with no screen

Cons: The volume/toggle button doesn't work too well

Summary: Well, first things first. Why the hype over IPODs??? I've never seen anything that special about them that everyone else doesn't already have. I own the Dell Pocket DJ (which has worked flawlessly), and the Ditty. My wife needed the Pocket DJ for the extra room, but I just wanted a simple MP3 player for working out. Why buy something without a screen? The Ditty works just as you would expect it too without all the hype. It's small, sounds great and plays WMA files for the Windows users who like to save room compared to MP3s. The only problem I ran into was the volume/toggle button. When pushing it in to select something it tends to just go back and forth in the menu. Hard to push it in just right.

"good mp3 player for price" on by onebearcat

Pros: better features than ipod nano, price

Cons: design, bigger than ipod nano, low memory for price, ditty? come on

Summary: Ok, monkeyspankz is obviously a narrow-minded apple lover. More power to him, just don't slam the competition just because you love another product. Not everyone looks at a product the same way as you. If you have serious thoughts on a product please post them. Just don't slam something without knowing anything about it.

First - the Ditty isn't for looks, its an mp3 player that fits those with a small budget who don't mind listening to 5 1/2 hours (mp3 avg size of 6mb / 4 min length) of music then having to switch out songs.

Second, I'm currently deciding between getting the ipod nano or this ditty for my fiance for Christmas. While I know the ipod has great looks, more storage, the color screen - it also has a much higher price tag. The dell may cost more / MB, but if all I need is a couple of hours of music for light use then the Ditty fits perfect and saves me $100. She is going to use it 40mins +/- per day during workouts. At that rate the Ditty will last her all week without having to switch songs or recharge the battery. And to top it off - the Ditty can be used with just about any music store (except itunes) while the ipod can only be used with itunes (with a few hacked exceptions). So we can use subscription music or pay per song (cheaper than itunes I may note). Itunes may be the most popular but that is partly because ipod users can ONLY use it. The other services (napster, yahoo, rhapsody, etc) have made the music software/store easy to use as well and cheaper (without forcing a particular hardware manufacture to only use them).

My Ditty pros: enough memory for her needs, lower price, small enough, no moving parts, FM tuner

"Simple player...looks like it does what it's supposed to" on by Burch

Pros: Screen...somewhat small...great for running and working out

Cons: I heard the caps are lost easily

Summary: I just ordered one for my g/f for her b-day. I chose between this and the shuffle..the screen one me over.

I am not an Mp3 illiterate but and I know there are much better players on the market but for 100 bucks it isn't that bad...the only thing it compares to is the shuffle and the creative 512. And I meant to say won.

"It is much better than the iPod shuffle." on by abbarry

Pros: the size, the screen, FM

    Cons: volume, no list

Summary: Why buy the iPod shuffle if you can get
DJ ditty for the same price. I just got mine and I love it. The best thing is that it has a screen that the shuffle doesn't have. The sound is great and it is easy to use. However, I think Dell could have done a better job with the volume changer. One other thing that I did not like is the fact you cannot display a list.
Overall, I think this device is better than ipod of the same price.

"Exactly as advertised..." on by GovRidge

Pros: Subscription services far superior and cheaper than paying $0.99 per track.

Cons: Volume toggle is a little funky to use, but only at first.

Summary: For the money I'd say it is about what it should be and maybe a hair more or less. The selection of yahoo music or napster to go is really your only music limiting issue. What is nice is you can just throw a whole album on there to listen to something completely without having to buy the tracks. Display is so/so, not spectacular, but good enough. Load time from song to song a bit better than most CD/MP3 players. Good sound output. Nothing to really thrill me other than the idea of having less limitations song wise... but because it hit its mark, 8 of 10.

    Updated
    Ladies and Gentlemen,

If you are experiencing any ongoing issues with your Ditty as some of us have for the past few weeks, with firmware and recognition issues, I urge you to contact customer support for a return of the item as quickly as possible as they only allow 21 days from the "Purchase Date" to deal with any issues. I have spent a total of 10+ emails, and 5+ hours online and on the phone with technical support and the only thing that Dell said they could do to solve the problem was to "call me back at a later date with any solution that they might find." May I add that this is the second Ditty that they have sent me that has stopped working completely, only to have them tell me the same thing over and over. They want to send me another device that again won't work on any of the computers in my house that we just tried with Technical support for 3 hours today. I suggest that you also lodge any complaints you have with technical support or customer care or even the company with the Better Business Bureau, as customer care clearly does not care that they have a lemon of a product that is not qualified to be on the market right now as it does not deliver even the most basic of features properly for a commercial product.

    Sincerely,
    One Terribly Dissatisfied Customer...
